He's really clinging on to that pretend title belt...

Its more legit than aldos at the moment atleast he showed up for the fight!

He's really clinging on to that pretend title belt...

So when he won his first 4 UFC fights he was fighting cans

When he beat Mendes it was because Mendes didn't have a full camp

Now he has a pretend belt

Come on, let's here what shite you're gonna come out with for when he beats Aldo

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,590 ✭✭✭CurryFlavoured

Let's be honest, the belt was made so that the fight could stay as main event and a 5 round fight. Aldo is the champ, if Conor loses to Aldo he was never champ. Nobody thought Condit was chsmp when he held the interim belt because he hasn't beat gsp yet.

Aldo will probably be ''old and not the fighter he used to be'' when that day rolls around! :pac:

No, if Conor beats Aldo he will have beaten the pound for pound best fighter in the world and will be a deserved world champion.

Right now he's a number 1 contender with a nice toy to play with and show his friends.

    That's true now.

As for the interim belt, it means nothing until you beat the champion.

I have heard this thrown around by numerous 'fans' on facebook but it's kinda silly when you check his record. Apart from 2012 he has consistently fought twice a year.

Looking at his wiki he fought 6 times in 2005

December will be his 8th title defence in 4 years and 8 months... That's pretty active as far as title defences go.

In his last 4 fights he's beaten the current 2nd, 3rd, 4th and Zombie, who would also easily be top 10 if he wasn't doing his military service at the minute.

Here's a way of looking at it.

If Conor wins in December, the ref will will lift his hand and Bruce Buffer will say "and new featherweight champion of the world".

If Jose wins in December, the ref will lift his hand and Bruce Buffer will say "and still featherweight champion of the world".

Ergo, Conor is not a champion. Interm belts are for when a title is vacated or stripped, neither of those things happened, Jose is Champion, Conor is just the second best priest.

I dont believe conor mcgregor has ever said "Bit hard to beat the champ when he never fights" but apart from that its actually true aldo is constantly injured and has missed several title defenses.

So what about Daniel Cormir and Tj dillashaw? they didnt beat the champ guess there belts are pretend too?

The way i see it is interim and champ are equal both have claim to the title, otherwise wheres the point in an interim title?

You do get that when he has missed title defenses due to an injury it just means the fight was pushed back a few months? It doesn't mean that he gets to skip fights

He'll call whoever wins the undisputed UFC FW champion

Never said he got to skip it stop making things up. What i was saying was aldo has a history of pulling out of title fights, i honestly wouldnt be surprised if he missed the next one aswell.

    TJ did beat the champ

The Jon Jones/ Daniel Cormir situation is the perfect example of where an interim belt should be used, because Jon Jones may never come back for all we know.

Putting the interim belt up for Conor/Mendes IMO was done purely to justify the huge amount of hype behind the original fight.

Put it this way if Mendes had won, and had the interim belt would you still believe

"The way i see it is interim and champ are equal both have claim to the title, ?"

So DC stays interim champ forever ???

Berao never beat the champ so he had a fake belt going by the logic here which was then taken by Tj who also never beat Cruz,

"You aint the champ till you beat the champ!"

    Aldo is pretty active, period.

There was no champ for cormier to beat and TJ destroyed the champ twice!

You're either trolling or haven't a breeze what you're talking about.

In an interim situation no you're are not the champ until you beat the champion.

    The cruz example is ridiculous

No, DC won a vacant title by beating Johnson, he was never interim champion, the title was vacant because it was stripped from Jones.

There's a massive difference, Aldo wasn't stripped, he didn't vacate, Aldo is the champion.

You realize the actual champ was Cruz right? barao had the interim belt that ye have been dismissing here?

So which is it the interim is either legit or its pretend...

Whats ridiculous is "You aint the champ till you beat the champ" statements if the champ is injured the whole time and ur destroying no1 contenders your the champ or atleast = to the champ.

Aldo's already the undisputed champion, this is almost as ridiculous as the "super champion" crap in boxing.

You aren't the champion unless you beat the champion, the champion is stripped of his belt and you beat someone else or the champion vacated his belt and you beat someone else.

None of those things happened. Aldo wasn't stripped, he didn't vacate and nobody has beaten him.

The way i see it is Mcgregor is a Champ now and Aldo is a Champ and they are going to see who is Undisputed Champ.

Otherwise just simply get rid of the interim title as it has no use what so ever.
