Is there much difference between IT/Uni in terms of practical work?

Most people say IT's leave students more workplace-ready and they contain more practical work, while Universities have a lot of theory.
Does anyone know if there is actually a significant difference between the amount of practical work in an IT and Uni?

It's a generalisation often bandied around, but like many generalisations, there is *some* truth to it.

My own opinion is that it was more true in a general sense 10+ years ago than it is now, but really, it would be hard to make an across-the-board statement which would be true generally; there are significant differences between different disciplines and between individual colleges / universities.

You're far better to research the particular area which you're interested in and the different courses available in that area in both sectors. Talk to current / past students if you can.
