My cat is friends with my dog.

The dog likes the cat because the cat brings home rabbits - the live ones, I rescue. The dead ones, they share. Though, I reckon the cat would prefer not sharing with the dog.

I don't know what is in it for the cat, tbh, but the cat will come through the cat flap and kiss myself and the OH - headbutts - and then do the same to the dog. The dog, in turn, bites the cat on the head????? How they are even friends, I don't know.

I have my dog since I was 17. She knows everything. I'd say she's very sick of listening to me at this stage.

Talk to the cats all the time too. One talks back, the other just looks at you with utter disgust.

Yep I talk to my two cats AND they talk back, and they both have different accents ofc. One of them especially loves a good chat, she responds back, purrs loads, runs up for a kiss, she loves it, she recognises my voice on skype too, sometimes I ring and she'll answer and then she'll put me through to my bf

I think cats just like tormenting dogs and deep down dogs actually like cats.

The family dog we had as kids used to be great for chasing cats out of the garden, or so we thought. I came home one day to see the dog and a wild cat playing with each other as if they were best of friends. As soon as the dog saw me she gets up and chases the cat out of the garden and comes back to me with a guilty look on her face as if she'd been caught out.

These are the same cats that would sit on the shed roof just to annoy the dog because she couldn't get up there.

All the time. I have guinea pigs. They obviously don't understand the words but they're very good at picking out tones. They know when they're being fed, when they're being called for loves and when they're in trouble, that sort of thing.

What I love about pigs is that they have a well developed vocabulary so it's easy to work out what they're saying back! :D

My cats meow and make noises at me and I talk back to them :)

Talk to the Jack Russell all the time. She is my best friend :)

friends and family started joking that my dog was like my child when I got her, I was adamant that she was a dog, just a dog and treated the same way I would any dog. 7 years in and I realise they were right, she is my baby and I treat her like my child. (my sister bought her a santa hat and scarf last week. I am now the old spinster of the family. I realise this is sad and deserve all the crap you might throw at me)

I talk to our 4 cats and foster kitten all the time. I'd find it weird if someone didn't talk to their pet. They're family. I prefer animals to most people.

Used to talk to my (late) cat in sickening baby talk and do this noise like pursing your lips and squeaking that she seemed to like and she'd meow back.

    I miss her. :(

No, but my animals talk to me.

Actually not true, the first bit. Have great conservations with my dog, he cocks his head to one side, lifts up his ears as best a collie can, then he groans, purrs, barks, whines......has quite a vocabulary :)

    Sorry about your loss Ann

Yep, I do talk to the cat when I'm back in the family home every month or so.

She's always happy to see me and comes to me when I call her or clap my hands.

It's a bit pathetic, but she's probably my best friend.:)

I always talk to Hugo. If he doesn't sit.. I'll say sit, please. And every night when I put Hugo to bed in his crate, I give him a treat, and while turning out the light.. I say: Goodnight Hugo!

    Sad, or what!

Just the other day I was discussing French philosopher Michael Foucault's 'Discipline and Punish' with my sister's cat. He criticised me for being too heady. I accepted his criticism because sometimes I feel my body is simply a vehicle for my brain.

    Yes, I'm drinking.

What would be the point of having pets if you don't chat to them?

    Savagely mauling burglars?

The missus has a dog - big stupid Labrador but a lovely aul animal all the same it has to be said!

Anyway, she does talk the ears off the thing, and treats it a bit like one would a child. Not in a wierdo way or anything, but in the way you often see householders do.

I've always been perplexed by this, even though I find myself doing it too on occassion with my two staffies. I mean, given that the dog can't understand wtf you're talking about, one would wonder what's the point?

So AH, do you chat away to your dogs and cats in your spare time?

Yes I chat away to pets :)

~ Their is this one husky pup that I dog-sit and am always chatting away when I walk her, just random stuff like good puppy ; aww look at the birdie ; no we can't chase that kitten ; no running today missy (injured spine by me) & she just loves running or power-walking ; just random waffle tbh. I am always saying something. Whenever I stop talking on our walk then she would stop walking and look back at me wondering what's wrong. It's so weird! She is just used to me chatting away on our walks :)

~ Another dog I'd see often is a lickle labrador who whenever she sees me walk into her owners home she runs looking for something for us to play catch. I rarely speak to humans when I visit that home as she keeps me occupied playing catch and I'd be talking random waffle there too with that dog.

These two dogs just look at me funny when I am quiet and not talking to them now when I go visit :)

~ We had this cat of 13years who passed away some months back and I'd talk random stuff to her too. At night if she got the chance she'd make a run up the stairs to my room. She would wait until I'd speak to her and then curl up on my pillow and just sleep, and during the day then she used to just sit on my lap listening to me talking away, again pure random waffle!

To answer your question Do you talk to your animals? - yes!

Yes and I feel like they know exactly what I'm saying and really get me... or they actually don't :(

If I say "Who's that?!" the dog will stop what its doing, and stare at the cctv for the yard to see who/whats coming I sh1t you not.

She is always reading peoples voices and mannerisms for patterns and has quite a few things down to a tee

Only like "Hello (name), Do you want food? what do you want? etc the cat answers back.

My dog is a happy go lucky sort of fella, a Jack Russell bouncing around looking for affection, I talk nonsense to him but I still love his unquestioning responses.

My cat is a 12 year tabby who's lived life, we've a great relationship, he studies me when he's lounging around the gaff and he picks on my every movement. We're like an old married couple. I sometimes speak deeper feelings to him and he stares at me with that whisker purring almost smile like gesture cats give you. :pac:

I even talk to animals on the street or if a dog is tied up outside a shop or whatever. Not a conversation or anything, just a ''heya'' or something before I pet them.Did this in the company of a new guy in work at lunchtime the other week and judging by the look on his face I'm pretty sure he thinks I'm insane.

Had a great conversation with a new dog today. Was sitting in my car with my feet still out. This strange scruffy dog came over and sat right in front of me, just staring at me. I said hello etc and he moved his head as I spoke. Then he walked up and dropped his chin on my knee. I chatted away to him (noticing all the strange looks from all the other people in the carpark lol). When I was finished talking I asked him where he lives......he walked away as happy as anything. I followed him in the car and watched as he hopped over a gate and went into a kennel.

What a lovely wee dog - just who I needed to talk to at the time :)

Depends on the animal, dogs, rats, ferrets, cats, I'll talk to all them. I'd also talk to birds if I owned any, reptiles on the other hand, no.

I do, but he rarely listens to me...unless he wants to :D
