If the Pixies gig was bright for its entirity that would suck :(

it will be, Arcade Fire will be coming on while it's still bright.

it's an outdoor gig in a residential area, it has to be over by 11pm.

Was hoping as much of the concert as possible would be in darkness, but doesn't look like it from those timings..

Well they're just yer man's best guess based on the gate opening time but they sound pretty plausible. If I'm going I'd like to time my arrival to just before the start of the Pixies set but if the Interpol rumour is on the money I could be persuaded to turn up earlier...

Well, I'll wait and see who else is supporting, but I'd be hoping to make a day of it :)

Somebody mentioned Interpol as a line up but don't know if there's an ounce of truth to it.

Just checked and looks like Interpol is in Luxembourg for a festival on the 29th. Bummer

    Setlist

Darn it, just realized if Dublin win in a couple of weeks the Leinster semi final take place on the same day as this concert. I bought tickets for the wife and we are on a day out for it. I wont miss the match either though so going to have to bus from city center to Marlay park. Throw in at 4 bells, so would hope to catch most of the match, hope its not a close one:D Back into town and hopefully on a bus at 5.30.

Does anybody know how long the bus actually takes? Do they actually run buses from the city center for concerts there? Have been to concerts there before and traffic around the park was always fairly poor!

    Thanks

Leave the game a little early and hop on a 16 in Drumcondra (opposite the train station) which will bring you to the door of Marlay Park, simple. It will take a good 45 minutes though.

Cheers for the heads up on this - nice little sample ahead of the gig next month.

BTW...was that Jonathan Ross's first appearance on the BBC since he got the bullet after the Russell Brand shenanigans?

What are people's thoughts on Reflektor? Only just now got around to giving it a few listens and in loving it, haven't really got through the last few tracks yet. Loving Normal Person and Joan of Arc so far! The one they played on Jools is a cracker as well!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,323 ✭✭✭✭MrStuffins

I really really like it. One of my favourite albums of last year.

Lulls a little in the middle but it's a very strong album. My favourite changes a bit but at the moment i'm loving Flashbulb Eyes!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 183 ✭✭PadraigOK

I prefer the tail end of the album. Porno being a personal fav and I've only recently returned to it after failing to get into it initially. Think they'll put on a blinder at Glasto or at least I hope they do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,069 ✭✭✭OhHiMark

Have given the album a good chance and I can't get into it. A few decent tracks but overall I don't really like it.

New album isn't doing much for me. Granted I have only listened to it twice but it hasn't caught my attention like Funeral or Neon Bible would have back in the day.

New Pixies album is disappointing more so though. Still, can't wait to see them as I never have. Think I'm going to have a stroke when they play Dig For Fire! I love that song so much.

Edit: I hope they play Dig For Fire!

I've given it maybe 5 listens now and it honestly does get a lot better with each listen, not their best but I'd probably maybe rank it ahead of Neon Bible. Well maybe now but it's an equal!

I absolutely love the Reflektor - only one dud song on it for me (You Already Know), and James Murphy's fingerprints are all over the place - the title track, Porno, It's Never Over, Afterlife, Normal Person - all great tunes I can't wait to hear live :)

Porno is by far my favourite track on the album. Would love if they played it. Last time I saw them they just sang a couple of lines acapella from the verse of Porno before going into Afterlife (superb song), but man I'd love to hear them do the full version.

Getting very excited to see them again.

It's Never Over, Afterlife & Normal Person are going to be epic live alright!

First two songs set the album up for something great to happen but it just kind of goes flat for me until the second disc. Some good songs in between but not as strong as their others I think.

Any word on the other support acts yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 717 ✭✭✭RolandGoose

I really hope JAMES are added to the line up, They are currently touring their 13th record Le Petit Mort, (13, lucky for some!)

They have dates set for Wicklow and Waterford on the 5th and 6th of July, I dunno if that gap is too long for them to hang around. They would certainly be a welcome addition tho! They are headlining the Castlefield Bowl shows in Manchester with The Pixies in July, and I know James frontman Tim Booth is an Arcade Fire fan, so hopefully this happen!

    MCD, make it happen!!!

Lorde announced as support for Earls Court gig next weekend. Not sure how I feel about that

She doesn't have a tour date scheduled on the day of Marley Park either

    Edit:

Friday - Steve Mackey (Pulp) DJ Set & Owen Pallett
    Saturday - 2 Many DJ's DJ Set & Lorde

Those are the supports this week in London. I'd say Owen Pallett is pretty likely given that he's on tour with the band anyway.

No its not sold out yet. Was just on MCD website to see if there was any word on support acts but still nothing

I for one would think Lorde would be awesome. Watched her Coachella set on YouTube and it was one of the highlights that I saw. Owen Pallet is supporting the National in iveagh gardens in July, so it might not be him.

Just a question. We have tickets to this gig, and need to arrange a babysitter. What's the latest these Marlay Park gigs go on to, and what time do people think the the Pixies will start at?

Gig must be finished by 11pm at the latest...expect it to finish between 10.30-10.45.

At a guess, Pixies will be on around 6.45.

Yeah I like Lorde too. I think she and Win discuss some similar themes in their music but just at different stages, as in Win is looking back on his youth in the Suburbs and Lorde is just coming out of it.

Just a heads up you must pre book your ticket for that shuttle bus. A friend and I didnt realise we had to pay before so when we went to get the bus they would'nt let us get on because we didnt pre book a seat. Then ended up getting the dublin bus out to Marley which took forever

5:30 one? just to give you extra time to get out and into the Park itself

Do you have to pre book the specific time or just a general ticket? It would be so much easier if it was run cash payment on the day like the electric picnic buses.

Not sure. I do remember booking a seat for a certain time for Slane last year , id say you should be ok no matter what time you book

Saw these guys Friday night and last night in London and I'm still buzzing! Cannot wait for Marley Park now

Played a lot of old stuff unlike last November when it was very Reflektor-heavy.

Outdoor stage will be amazing. Marley Park (and then Hyde Park) gigs will be good warm ups for Glastonbury, which I reckon is going to be their biggest gig ever, wouldn't be surprised if this was the gig Bowie showed up for.

Nice long set list too (just over 2hrs). Will be amazing to see them in an Irish crowd again!

The Glastonbury gig (Friday 27th) is before the Marlay Park gig (Sunday 29th).

Either way, I'm looking forward to seeing them over at Glastonbury and clinging to the hope that Bowie will make an appearance!

Marlay Park should be an excellent gig. Providing the Glastonbury gig goes to plan, they will be buzzing and there will be alot less pressure on them so they should be nice and relaxed!!

Oh nice one for some reason it was the weekend after Hyde Park in my head.

I guess Glasto will be a warm up for Marley Park then! :)

If there's ever a chance of Bowie joining them on stage again it's Glasto. If he doesn't id say he never will.

Either way I'd say you're in for an epic set over there, love that festival, enjoy!

Just a heads up: the montreal gig on the 30th of August is billed to be Arcade fire Fire's last show of 2014. The Earl Court gigs in London they said they were excited to play Glastonbury and hyde Park and "God knows when we'll be back" before launching into their last song. I'm not trying to be a scare monger but the Marlay Park gig seems to be the last Irish gig for a little while so if anyones stalling on getting tickets I'd get moving!!

I saw them once before, back in 2004 I think.
In less than 1 hour and a half, they played at least 20 songs!!
