It worked for me, it seems it only works on items that are sold and dispatched by amazon themselves, so make sure both items are sold by amazon otherwise it wont work.

Can get it from Collins Press for €23.99, just missed out on the 50% off offer posted on BA, but postage is a staggering amount. Can get it from easons with 10% off to bring it to €26.99. So will check out bookfinder also. It was more getting to use the Amazon code I think

Update: Crikey, Book Depository comes in at €14.21, will have to order it there so. Thanks snubbleste for the bookfinder search tool, apologies for slight derailment of thread.

Instead of cancelling the order, why dont people contact customer service and get them to take the fiver off the order that way. At least that way you wont be losing your place in the dispatch queue etc.
Amazon being Amazon will almost certainly honour it for you.

I tried to apply this to an order from yesterday and the live chat gave me this:
