Every time I try to download a software package (Chrome for example) via the Terminal it gets to the final stage then finds some sort of error. And when I tried to install Opera from the software centre it started to install but then stopped without installing.

I'm not a scripter (painstakingly copied a script found on the net for the Chrome installation attempt) or a techie so if anyone has a simple explanation for this conundrum I'd be grateful.

Post any errors you get from installing the packages here, you may be missing a dependency.

You can also download a package for Opera directly off their site, instead of through the software centre.
