We have recently bought a house in Clonard in Abbeyfields and we are looking for advice in relation to Sky/UPC and broadband in the area. Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

UPC is unlikely, and even if it is, it would probably be just a basic tv set up, with no broadband.

Should have not problem getting Sky Television there as its satellite. Likewise, you should easily get Freesat TV and Saorview if you want to go down the no bills option.

Broadband is going to be tough though. According to eircom, the exchange in Clonard is not down for upgrading, so there is no efibre for the forseeable future. However, you might get basic broadband - anywhere from 1.5Meg to a highly unlikely 24 meg.

You should have reasonable 3G coverage with the mobile operators, and possibly 4g in the coming months, so going with wireless broadband might be an option.

Thanks a million Colm for the reply.

How about Sky broadband? Is that all connected to the exchange issue?

Sky broadband uses Eircom lines - all Fix Wired broadband (well nearly all) uses Eircom lines, and then Sky or other sellers including Eircom themselves provide the service on those lines. If you know someones landline number, or if you have one already, you can put it into the eircom website, and see what it available but its not going to be fast.

Other options include a device that connects to the mobile network, and relays a wifi hotspot in your house. This works well enough (not really for movies and stuff) using the 3G network - so check for coverage on those networks - hopefully this will improve over time with the 4G rollout.

You could also get satellite broadband, although I think it is expensive.
