Yeah so im not the biggest hip hop head around, so figure id ask here. Always loved this album, the gritty dark NY sound to it, but MD's other stuff has never been half as good I found. So can you guys recommend me any other albums or artists that made/make stuff similar to this album?

Anything by wu tang particularly 36 chambers and any members solo stuff.
    Ready to die - biggie
    Illmatic - Nas
    Reasonable doubt - jay z
    Doe or die - AZ
Naughty by natures self titled 2nd album
Big L - lifestyles ov da poor and dangerous

Albums that all capture the sound of their time perfectly and the perfect place to start getting into your golden era hip hop!

Not exactly what you're looking for but one serious recommendation is At The Speed of Life by Xzibit, relatively slept on, some hardcore beats that go hand in hand with the rawness of Xzibits voice, well worth a look!

    Hope this helps.

So you are really looking for NY hip hop from the mid 90's....

Black Moon - Enta Da Stage

Mobb Deep's album after the Infamous called 'Hell On Earth' is also an excellent album, it tends to get overlooked a lot.

Fat Joe - Jealous Ones Envy

Big Noyd - Episodes of a Hustla

Jeru The Damaja - The Sun Rises in the East & Wrath of the math

    Royal Flush -Ghetto Millionaire

    Real Live - The Turnaround

Take a dip into the Track Of The Day thread on the forum as well, you'll get lots of different varieties of tracks there.

Some great shouts in here :)

    A few others:

Organized Konfusion - Stress: The Extinction Agenda
Smiff N Wessun - Da Shinin' (Incredible atmosphere throughout this whole record)
    Heltah Skeltah - Nocturnal
    Kool G Rap - 4,5,6
Gangstarr - Hard to Earn (Listening to Suckaz need Bobyguards as I type this, very Infamous sounding)
and maybe - The Gravediggaz - 6 Feet Deep (Prince Paul & RZA on the boards, filthy stuff)

for something a little more recent, Roc Marciano - Marcberg
