Quick question - is there a Penny's in Tullamore? And if so, where abouts?

According to the website locator, no. Nearest are Portlaoise and Athlone

Yeah I'm going to pop over to Heatons some evening this week as there is none in Athlone. I'm from near Athlone actually and need to get some things in Pennys but was hoping to get both stores done on the one trip, (save me going into the madness of Golden Island car park on a Saturday)!

    Thanks all.

No Pennys in Tullamore despite numerous attempts for the store to open here. <modsnip>

    Source?
Pennys aren't in Tullamore because they can't find a suitable store with dedicated delivery area for goods inwards and also because they have sufficient coverage in the midlands not to pay over the odds to establish a presence in Tullamore.

Very well established source . They basically had the old Texas building signed and sealed until <modsnip>. It wasn't just Pennies that was meant to be coming to town and eventually pulled out.

No. The property bubble collapsed and it was obvious that the other retail units in the proposed development would not be sold, not would any finance be forthcoming to build in as the developer behind the project was in NAMA; Eamon Duignan.
The anchor tenant would not be paying a high rent as they were the anchor tenant who would be there to attract other retail outlets to the shopping centre.

so all these Meetings in Tullamore town Council about Pennies didn't happen? I could name out the people in their own little group that go to these meetings who have theses small shops from one end of the town to the other.

While the planning process in Ireland was corrupt, it was not so corrupt as to be able to prevent a shopping centre being built on the grounds of another retail development in a designated retail space.
This shopping centre was not built because of the reasons I mentioned above.
