What are the chances of it freezing tonight on back-roads between West Cork and Cork City? I may be driving it later on and any advice or insight would be most welcome :) thanks

Edit: Specifically the R585 "backroad to Bantry"

    This looks familiar?

Monday morning on the 12Z GFS could actually be worse than yesterdays storm.

    Nothing nailed down yet.

Will definitely be more gusty in the east tomorrow (compared to yesterday's event). And even more dangerous lows in the run up to Christmas..

Looking at GFS, 2 depressions follow on from that storm on Monday and currently track up across west Munster on into Connaught. Are they worth keeping an eye on? Will be in Clare for Christmas from Sunday so wondering if there is any potential disruption from those 2 - know its early days yet though in terms of modelling and the forecasts.

Way off in FI, but a nasty looking storm for Ireland and UK on the 26th/27th with a low deepening coming up from the southwest.

We're due to sail from Fishguard to Rosslare on the ferry on 28th December, do you think the worst of it will have abated by then Maquiladora?

Hail storms all day in Castlebar and we had a dusting of snow last night, what happened to the mild weather people were forecasting for Christmas week, it is freezing today. So are we on track to basically have a storm most days up till the 27th?

Ferrys should be good to go as well?

Quite a bit of disruptions to Ferries tomorrow acalmenvoy and by the looks of those charts over the weekend too!

If you're going to/from Dublin, the conventional ferries should be delayed but fine but the fastcraft will struggle. Swift is already cancelled for the day. The HSS is back tomorrow and is doing a morning run to avoid the worst of the winds later (leaving Holyhead at 0830 and Dun Laoghaire at 1100).

Probably going to be lots of moving of schedules to fit departures in to weather windows but the operators are usually pretty good at getting people home in the end.

Weather people - when looks best at sea over the coming days?

    Simon

There's no way of knowing what the weather will really be like then, it's just too far away yet. Will have a better idea in a few days time.

Flash of lightning with thunder in Galway

Fairly widespread 50-60mph gusts tomorrow, higher locally and around coasts. Nothing too severe but enough to bring down the odd branch or tree, I'd imagine there will have been a few that have been weakened by the recent bouts of windy weather.

Thanks for that Maquiladora, my husband says its impossible to truly forecast more than a day or two in advance! Will be back to you next week, thank you! :)

ECMWF has Monday's deep depression well to our northwest.

The storm deepens almost 60hPa in 24 hours :O

Have they named the Monday Storm Yet? LOL

    Sure dose deepens fast!

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,134 ✭✭✭✭maquiladora

12Z ECM has Monday's low as a very intense 939mb at 96 hours. But it's further west than the GFS, it seems that it doesn't really impact us on this run. A modest shift east would put the west coast in play though.

    1Mj0qyg.gif

The north could still get some strong winds though, and Scotland would be hammered. 933mb on Christmas Eve.

    KwGSVC2.gif

Stephens Day. More deep lows kicking around.

Just watched the weather after the news and showing a storm tomorrow, they showed 80k on the main chart but why at the end when they show the following few days they show different wind strength 80 tomorrow but on the small chart 30 , very confusing

Maximum sustained winds on the exposed west coast up to 80 km/h. Mean winds for the day 30 km/h.

We're meant to be on the 9am Rosslare to Fishguard ferry on Monday morning. Hope it's not too awful a crossing!

Very quiet in here considering we have a code orange tomorrow! It will be interesting to see if Mondays event is going to be any closer to our shores.

There's not much to say about tomorrow really! It will be a swathe of wind and rain passing over the country, nothing too severe and nothing that will really upgrade or downgrade. It's not quite as interesting as watching a small low explosively develop as it races up past the coast not knowing for sure exactly how strong it is or it's exact track.

It seems the winds tomorrow will be more widespread though than yesterday. Are there any potential lows next week like yesterday or too early to tell?

It's possible. Read back over the last couple of pages. :pac:
