Would have to say it is officially 'Windy' here in my experience of this location, quite consistent strong winds. So perhaps we might get something.

Still some hours from the likely peak here in the east near 10am.

do the passengers know they are in one of those patterns for a half hour even more?

Yeah I think the pilots announce it. My sister said she was anxious coz she was so close and yet, so far away!

When is the west's peak ?

In Galway it's windy/very windy. There are very sustained winds that don't sound worryingly strong along with a few intense gusts here and there.

M6 back online at midnight and showing gusts very close to the sea surface @ 66kts.

I would suggest peak for Galway near 6am.

Could be quite abrupt tightening of the gradient as secondary low centres move onto west coast.

THe wind is quite strong here in West Cork. My labrador has dived into her bombshelter under my desk and the dustbin has gone flying in my front garden.
My internet is intermittant. it looks like it will be a long night.

I intend to be fast asleep when the Big Wind arrives over Leinster at 6am and onwards!

    Night all, and Happy Christmas.

    Enjoyed the thread.

    sleet shower just over 1.4c

    clear and calm once more

over 50knot now in quite a few spots.

max wind of 70knot less likely

    65knots now looking the peak

a near miss but still stormy and branches power outages and icy roads likely

Am just north of cork city and temp is 2 deg. Just blustery at the mo. Willing to stay up if we were in for snow and storm but will go to bed otherwise. What will I do?

Its gotten really windy here in West Cork in the last 30 mins.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,778 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

Until the bottom finger of the more southerly circulation hits the west coast, i really do not think we can be sure of windspeeds, i do hope the M6 updates in next few hours as in crucial position.

N Clare: Very gusty now in hail showers. About as bad here as last weeks storm at the moment. Cold. Things not so bad between showers.

Is flight radar accurate . Why is the plane center top of Ireland doing there?
    Paris to Mexico City /
Strange route that takes it into storm

Agreed. Although it is very calm here at the moment. possibly the calm before all hell breaks out.

It's the weirdest sort of weather. The wind seems to be circling - gusty - then distant - then calm. Rain then sleet - warm then all of a sudden chilly - I'm a novice weather follower but it's kind of tropical - is that to do with the lows?

    South Sligo

Oh and do get heady in low pressure but haven't got the snow pain yet.
