Hi all, I had a facial on Wednesday week. The next day a rough red rash emerged particularly on cheek bones and jaws. Mywhole face is now totally covered in spots which I never get, and its peeling its so dry. I have an event Friday night so I'm anxious, is there anything I can do to calm my skin? I told her I have, dry skin and use dermalogica active moist, she told me this is for an older skin (!) and I should use environ vitamin a moisturiser.I don't know if this is true as I find my active moist great. I have been dabbing with tea tree but need to clear the spot outbreak and flaking skin!

get la roche posay or avene. I have tried nearly everything and these two have been the best. No harsh chemicals and thermal water is a main ingredient.

Avene do a skin recovery cream. sounds like you need. Id stop with the tea tree. Will dry your skin more.

I use a a La roche posy face wash and moisturiser every couple of days. Best my skin has been in over a year.

wha???? anyway back to the topic of your spots and the facial from hell, you could try asking for a refund or a repeat facial on the house to clear things up..

But im guessing since the last facial you dont want to know..

I had a few spots there some months back had a really bad pre peroid time, and broke out for some reason.

What i used was chamomile tea bags and boiling water, then let it cool and put it on your skin a few bags like 5 or 6.

Then put some toothpaste on the spots and go to sleep, wake up the next morning cleanse with a cream cleanser, exfoliate to get rid of the dry patchy areas then put on tea tree astrigent and maybe put on some anti spot concealer all over your facial area down to the jawline and put your foundation over it.

Thats what i used to do anytime i got real mad spots.

I thought it was a rule that if your going somewhere special you do not get a facial for at least 2 weeks before hand. I was told that a facial is a deep cleansing of the skin, therefore brings out dirt and grease or whatever to the surface and as a result it's highly likely you will get spots. But this clears up then a few days later.

Thats an excuse they will tell you. I never go near facialists that bring out spots, its not something you want.

If this was the case with every facial that loads and loads of spots would be brought out, nobody would bother going, nobody likes having spots all over.

Been to the thai facial and to primrose in limerick they never ever gave me spots with their facials and they use a variety of oils, but always do a deep cleanse afterwards.

Maybe they didnt cleanse the oil off fully?

I'm not sure what statute that rule is in :/ I have often had deep cleansing facials 48 hours before an event with no consequence. I am aware that a facial brings everything to the surface but my reaction is so amplified that's why I'm posting.

Well I don't anybody that would get a facial a few days before an event.
If you think the person that done was facial is at fault then contact the salon and discuss it or see if what they have to say about it.

Stay away from anything with chemicals and sulfates, can you get some calming lotion/soap perfume free.
Tea tree oil will make it worse. You must have had an allergic reaction. What did she use on you? What type of facial was it? I've never heard of this happening to anyone. I have them 48 /24 hours before an event, no consequences either in fact the closer to better.

What? I wouldn't be satisfied after a facial unless I had a spot or two, nothing like a deep cleanse that gets into the pores and cleanses them, otherwise why would I bother getting a facial when I could wash my face at home?
Ever steam your face at home and wipe a cotton pad over it and see what's coming out of your pores??

It's not "something they tell you".

    Anyway - OP.
first of all Active Moist is generally used for oily skin. This would not be a good moisturiser for dry skin. Dry skin is lacking oil and a moisturiser for an oily skin will not be an oily moisturiser, if that makes sense?
If you wanted to stick with dermalogica for moisturiser, skin smoothing cream is very nice for dry skin. You could look at a cream from the la roche posay range for a cheaper (and good) moisturiser.
You do not need to buy the exact product your therapist recommended, she is probably on commission. You will find just as good for cheaper.

If your skin was red raw, that does not sound normal after a facial. Were you allergic to the products? Did they feel uncomfortable at the time? What kind of a facial was it? What are the spots like? Are they big red and angry looking or are they small little ones with a little white head (no redness)? Was the equipment used clean?

If it doesn't look like a normal case of a break out - you could probably look up impetigo and just have a look online and see if it resembles yours? It's hard to offer exact advice without seeing the problem but it could be a case of normal spots or you could need anti biotics to clear it up if there was an infection present. Obviously we are not allowed give medical advice here but if you are worried def go see your doctor.

Stop trying to dry up the spots too, it could be drying your skin out even more and just making the situation worse.

Could you have got an infection from the facial?

It sounds like a post that was on here a while ago (maybe last year) by someone who had threading done and came out in spots all over her face and a red rash. She went to the dr and it turned out to be a strep infection she got at the beauty salon.

    That was me :o

Sounds like what I had which is why I asked if it looked like impetigo, if it is - get thee straight to a doctor.

I agree with Lexie that if I didn't get a few spots after a facial I'd be disappointed! And I'd never get one within a week of an event.

But that's neither here nor there regarding the OPs issue now. If I were you I'd stay away from everything. Literally water all the way and allow your skin to react and sort itself til you know what it is. But you probably want something to sooth it, in which case I'd ask my gp/pharmasist what is best. If you mess around without knowing what it is you could aggravate it or even spread it. The tea tree is going to dry it out more.

You should give Clarins sos skin beauty repair concentrate a try. It's very soothing and calming, it's very expensive at around €50 for 15ml but Clarins often have 3ml free samples to give out :)

    PC brigade?? OK.
Its all personal choice at the end of the day and some people prefer not to have facials close to an event on the off chance that their skin reacts badly and won't have time to recover.
Good to hear your skin is better.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23,646 ✭✭✭✭qo2cj1dsne8y4k

Don't think it's very fair to say that Gracie, it's not the PC Brigade saying that, it's a well known fact not to have a facial a few days before an important event but your breakout did not sound like a normal after facial breakout.

You posted here looking for advice and then turned around and insulted some of the posters who took time out to reply to your issue.

I'm glad that your skin is much improved though.
