Last Instalment and ballaycasey, twas a good day for the antepost bets. A lot of good angles this year with the NRNB and best odds guaranteed coming in on the 5 races so early

Cillians Return is now technically favourite for the bumper. His best price is shortest of any horse quoted (NB bet365 the only ones quoting him at 7/1). They make Black Hercules their 6/1 favourite but others are as big as 8/1

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,681 ✭✭✭BumperD

Wouldn't be surprised if Vigil has new colours for his next run. He needs good ground to show his best - could be the one for weld to finally break his cheltenham duck?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,224 ✭✭✭jimjamcos

Discussing other bumper horses on the Mr Golantilla thread should result in a strict ban! :D

I'd say Golantilla is very likely to go off fav provided he wins his prep. Obviously only one of the Mullins ones will go, so one will shorten too. Was impressed by Vigil, McNamara rode it like it was a complete machine

I see Andy Lynch is heading to Ayr tomorrow for the one ride on a Crawford trained filly in a maiden hurdle.

A bit strange considering crawfords son(or whatever he is to the trainer) is also there and has a few rides on the same card.

She has some average form on the flat when trained for Weld and Crawford is well capable of getting 1 ready. She also gets 17lbs from all the likely dangers.

Will be interesting to see what she opens at. Forecast price 10/1 on the Irish racing app.

** actually he is over for 2 rides riding Mister First in the main race who would also warrant respect and would probably be his main ride.
Presumably the lad of the crawfords can't do 10stone.

    ***nothing to see here

Weld has had festival winners. Rare Holiday and General Assembly were 2 he trained for Smurfit. Could have been more

Ya, I got corrected on the bumper thread!! Found rare holiday, didn't know about the other.

He's had a few placed horses as well as rare Holiday alright

Some of his have been the subject of savage gambles too over the years

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,681 ✭✭✭BumperD

Safe to say its sums up how hard it is to win at Cheltenham when Weld hasn't bagged a winner in 20 yrs.

Think there is a good gamble to come Thursday night at Kempton. Horse been running over the wrong trip, down over a stone since September. Finally back to a trip he has won four times over. Will be getting on early

Came across this the other day, worth a read

I read about the Kelly method and forgot about it.

I had been planning a new strategy for Cheltenham around betting percentage of bank but if I go like the last few Cheltenham I will run into trouble getting what I want on come Thursday morning, only way is probably on betfair but my record with Betfair is terrible.

When I get some time I will go through my bets from last year and see what would have worked best last year.

    Anyone else have bogie bookies?

Goals aren't pitched as high as I imagined either.

13/10 is completely wrong, win lose or draw

Its an interesting dynamic of long term form versus short term form. Arsenal obviously the better team this season. United easily better previously. On talent of the players alone, who is better? United by a mile in attack, Arsenal by a mile in midfield with defense and goalie arguable. Given that they've priced basically every big premiership match up as a base of the home team being 5/4, that would look the right price (I'd personally say 6/5). However add in Arsenal have a 'soft' home advantage, and United have had a ridiculous record over them in recent years, then 13/10 starts to look fine. If I was forced to back one outcome it'd be the draw, then Arsenal in that order. Market looks spot on to me though

    It's absolutely bonkers. Also took 1.99 -0.25.

I had another small bet at 2.38 on Smarkets (2% commission)

Isn't it ironic. The Yanks send a man to Ireland to sort the parades issue in Ireland. Seems the parades disease must have latched onto the envoy before he boarded his flight for home and has spread to the US st paddys day parades. Maybe we should send an envoy to the US?

Use Spurs as a common denominater. Arsenal around 2.04 to beat Spurs at home. That's very comparable to United, given that Arsenal were in better form then and Spurs have been slightly better this season than United. So have Arsenal as a base 2.04 and then factor in the ridiculous record United have over them, and 'reverting to the mean' given that Arsenal have over performed in the past 6 months whereas United have completely underperformed. 13/10 is slightly too big but it's marginal at best
