Have been thinking of getting a dog for a while and have talked myself out of it a few times. I live in the suburbs and have an enclosed garden. I know quite a lot about dogs as I have had them years ago when I lived in the country. I am just a bit nervous about the commitment required. I am going to see a three year old…

Really appreciate the true life stories and the advice. It is a stark reminder of the commitment involved and I should know as I did have two dogs several years ago but decided against getting one when I moved to my present location. I did go to the animal welfare last week and had a good chat with the staff. They had around twenty dogs but having looked at them and taken one for a walk , I didn't see anything suitable. The lady there was suggesting a lurcher or greyhound as quite a relaxed dog to have around. Lots of the dogs they had were sheepdog breed and would need lots of exercise and the terrier breeds do not appeal to me that much. :pac:
