Been there a few times by car (but a fair few years ago now), wasnt a caravan owner at the time so wasnt sussing out the territory from that point of view.

My recollection is that, even in the highlands, there wasnt a whole lot of hill climbing involved, you're main scooting through valleys. Roads from Fort William to Mallaig (in particular) or the Kyle of Lochalsh (towards Skye) were a bit narrow and twisty, so maybe a case to be made to leave the rig inland a bit, and do day trips out to the extremties.

Have 2 young buys, will be 8 & 5 next Summer, so will probably have a 2 stop strategy (a few days in each), or maybe even a one stop if can get somewhere central with maybe do an odd overnight in a hotel or tent - e.g. if got based near Fort William could probably stay a night in Inverness which would allow you to see a lot of the north of the country.

Not sure it would be an A to B to C to D trip that would more suit a motorhome, though on the plus side for a caravan the distances are not huge (compared to continent) and the roads are smaller/lower with slower traffic speeds (high windy motorways with speeding traffic are no fun when towing!).

Can anyone recall 'mountain climbing' main car routes that would deter you from towing through?

Any site recommendations or must see/must do stuff?
