Shadow on Dell 2209WA monitor - possible to repair

Have a Dell 2209WA monitor which unfortunately is now out of warranty. There's a shadow on it; mainly visible when displaying white, but just enough to be annoying. Any chance this kind of thing can be fixed or will I just have to lump it? P.

So I inadvertently found out one solution - simply leave the monitor switched off for a few weeks. The shadow has noticably lessened in that time.
