Dominos! Chicken kickers, pepperoni doughballs & a large New Yorker. Justified because we took ourselves for a rather steep hike in Wicklow during the day and had the 'can't cook/won't cook's quite bad

Moules, twice cooked Frites and a saffron/garlic aoili.
Seriously good. I was really amazed by the fries, I haven't ever bothered to cook them before , a bit food snobbery going on I suppose. But when done right, OMG!

Fish tacos lads... things will never be the same again!

So it's 3:30pm over here in Toronto and I guess it kind of counts more as a lunch, but I am planning on an extremely early night tonight and will likely just have a cheese toastie or something if I get hungry, so this technically counts as dinner.

To anyone living in Toronto, or planning to go over on a holiday, or to visit family or friends, bookmark Seven Lives. Oh my lawdy lawd!! Fish tacos seemed a bit of an odd concept to me, and I never got around to trying the place until the weather picked up again here; I love to try new things but a fish taco in -40 degree(!!) weather back in February/March just seemed wrong to me. I really should have tried it ealier.

Here is the ceviche tostada I just had, with a guac-like mix on top, and some jalapeno sauce (green) plus a tiny bit of habanero and roasted garlic (orange/red; this is possibly the hottest thing I have ever had outside of ghost peppers, the garlic must do something to the habanero because it is simply insane. My upper lip is still numb).

    20150809_152729.jpg

I also had a taco there a few weeks back with deep-fried mahi mahi fish, which was almost as good (but taught me a painful lesson about that hot sauce!!).

    Aw no what happened?

Pork dumplings. This batch were fried only on the bottom, then steamed, the others were just steamed. The fried ones were so much better than the plain steamed ones!

Hadn't done one in ages and everything it's went wrong! I overcooked the chicken, roasties weren't crisp, gravy was lumpy :(

I had asked on the chat thread but, what recipe did you use for the dough? They look awesome btw, I couldn't get the hang of crimping/ sealing mine up lol

I find its best to boil them for a bit and then fry them in vegetable oil. Always awesome... And some dark soy sauce!

I use the steamer for Dim Sum.

Oh, i didn't see that sorry. I just used dumpling wrappers I got in the Chinese supermarket here on Coal Quay in cork. They are in the freezer section. Felicity Cloake gives a recipe for making wrappers and the filling that i used in the Guardian.

Probs the last ones i'll be having though, i'm going for a coeliac biopsy on Wednesday. Specialist is pretty sure it will be positive:/ Guess i'm figuring out how to make rice wrappers!

Saturday night I marinaded steaks in Thai 7 spice, soy & chillies. Then barbecued. Served with a slaw of shredded pak choi, scallions, sugar snaps with a ginger, chilli, soy & fish sauce dressing. For dessert we roasted marshmallows on the firepit in the garden.

Sunday, we had a ribs, wings & wedges night while watching a movie.

I don't have pictures but on Saturday I was out for a hen and so it was a three course meal. I've been eating healthy and in smaller portions for 8 weeks up to this and I was going to enjoy it.

For starters it was a lovely garlic and mushroom vol au vent. Devine!

Mains was a tandoori chicken salad. I didn't expect it to be goujons but it was and I think if I had goujons more regularly then I probably would have been more disappointed with them. It was grand though.

Desert was a hot chocolate fudge cake and this is where I made my mistake. It was yummy and rich and heavy but I should have gone for the fruit salad!!

I was feeling very unwell a half an hour later and an hour later we were on our way home as I couldn't go on. It was a very dicey journey back. :o

Yesterday was my first ever attempt at marinated, baked tofu - and I'm proud to say, it was a full flavour-success.

My next step will be working on making it look like something you'd want to eat as well.

I made baked chilli cheese sandwiches with roasted chickpeas. So easy, but absolutely delicious.

This is the first time I have cooked with chillis, and it turned out way better than I thought it would. :)

Oven baked hake, sugar snaps, boiled potatoes, potato bravas and some of the spicy sauce of the fish, delicious!

My plans for soup were scuppered by not having any soup in the freezer (1 left for lunch tomorrow), so i made couscous and chorizo salad with lime and tabasco yoghurt.

Confit of duck on a bed of cabbage and red wine braised with smoked bacon green lentils

Pork meatballs with fennel seeds & chili baked in a sweet tomato sauce (yellow pepper based) and served with pasta & parmesan. Some left for lunch tomorrow too! If I can conceal them from kitchen scavenging parties.

Dog heart broke because everything had onions in it and he didn't get to share. Lying prone on the floor, all life & hope gone out of him.

Lidl flat iron steaks, with fried mushers and roasted sweet potato chips. Very tasty. First time cooking or eating those steaks - they're class. Incredible value.

Kolkatta Chaap chicken curry made with spice mix from Green Saffron. Gorgeous...but not for the nut allergic, it's loaded with blitzed cashews and pistachios.

I'm home alone at the moment, & wanted something quick & easy so I could spend as much quality time with the TV remote as possible. (We don't get to see each other much these days. :))

I fried the last of my stash of Annascaul black & white pudding with a couple of quality tomatoes & eggs (over easy). Perfectly complimented by buttery slices of bread & a mug of tae.

Oven-baked spicy vegetables (onions, green and red pepper, squash, carrots and portobello mushrooms) with fresh lettuce, tomato, cucumber, avocado and sour cream, in multi-seed tortilla wraps.

Lovely and messy, but not so nice to look at on a photo ;)

We picked up some polenta during one of Lidl's Italian weeks and finally got around to using it over the weekend. The husband cooked the polenta with goats cheese and eggs and served it topped with sauted mushrooms and kale. Freaking delicious, can't wait to have it again.

When you say he cooked it with goats cheese and eggs, does that mean he added those while the polenta was cooking? Would you be able to share the recipe?
