    Hi,

I'm a customer for over 20 years. Can I lodge a third party cheque into my account provided that it is not crossed and that it is endorsed by the original payee?

    Hi reilig.

Thanks for taking the time to get in touch with us.

It is certainly possible to lodge a third party cheque to your account once it has not been crossed or have account payee written across it. If neither one of these appears on the cheque and it has been endorsed, you may lodge the payment direct to your account.

We hope this helps. If there is anything else we can help you with, please let us know.

Another question that was raised today that you might be able to help us with. If a cheque is made payable to a company, can they endorse it to an individual so that the individual can lodge it into their personal bank account?

    For example:

Company X receives a cheque for €100 and the manager signs and dates the back of it and gives it to their employee John Smith as a Christmas bonus. Is there any way that John Smith can lodge the cheque into his account or if not is there any other way that he can get the proceeds of the cheque?

Sorry for the questions, they are just issues raised by students today.

    Hi reilig,

No need to apologise we're happy to help.

A cheque made payable to a Limited company or Business name must be lodged to an account in the same name.  They cannot be endorsed and paid to a third party.

    Hope this helps.

    Many thanks
