Read this earlier here, how is WCC meant to cope with this?
The Local Government Fund given to the council has been reduced from last year's allocation of €14.4m to €3.44m.

Seeing as the have already voted in the budget, is there that can be done to improve the funding?

"Cllr. Pat Casey said, 'we were promised property tax would fund the local authority. We were told 80 per cent of the property tax collected would go back into Wicklow. Now we are being told it will just be 22 to 23 per cent with the rest going to Irish Water.

Figures given at the meeting revealed that if 100 per cent of the property tax had been collected, this would have given Wicklow County Council around €16.5 million. However, the council will now only receive €3.44 million, with the remainder going to Irish Water who will take control of water services next year."

Why is Irish Water receiving Property Tax money? County councils have gotten the water wells for basically a pittance by compulsory purchase order in most cases and now it's turned over to Irish Water who will no doubt be able to make vast profits in the years to come.
