Damien Tiernan tweeted last night that there was going to be some sort of announcement about St John's College.

I can't link to the tweets here, as Twitter is blocked, but you can look them up under his username @damienrte

Has there been any further word on this? Anyone got any idea what's planned?

12 Million being spent creating 50 housing units and 100 construction jobs.

Great news for city to see building being saved and the some extra jobs.

It is great to see that it will be used, rather than going to rack and ruin.

Sad that it won't be in public use though. Buildings like this and the Holy Ghost Hospital (also being used as housing for the elderly) would be great as council or university buildings (another debate, I know!).

When you have buildings like these, it becomes a pity if only a limited (albeit deserving) section of the community gets to see them. One of the great things that we've seen lately in Waterford is the use of the Good Shepherd by WIT (availability of the chapel for concerts, conferrings, etc.) and the opening of the Waterford Health Park, with its preservation of the old Presentation Convent. Pity that isn't happening here.

good news. just saw a picture of it on rte.ie, couldnt believe it was in such bad state. anyway, a few jobs for some construction workers and building saved, nice one.

Great news. Where is the funding coming from? The council budget or private funding?
