Onkyo TX-SR876 HDMI issue

    Hello,
I purchased an Onkyo TX-SR876 on 10/7/09 in the Belfast store with 5-year Supercare. It has been a fantastic unit, and I am very happy with it normally.

However, when starting from cold, there is a significant time delay (until the unit heats up) before any HDMI input will sync and display. As I have added more HDMI devices (UPC HD box etc.) it has become more of an issue.

Over the last year this has gotten steadily worse (originally when this started it was taking about 20-30 seconds to sync - now it can be five - ten minutes before any audio & video appear).

    Note:
    • Component input works immediately and displays correctly.
    • The unit's own OSD options pages (which output over HDMI) will also display immediately.
    • Same result from outputting over HDMI Main or Sub.
    • All HDMI inputs show the same syncing issue.
    • If the unit has been on for a length of time (and is warmed up), then there is usually no issue.
    • Once it does finally sync there are no visual or audio issues.
    [*]

Googling around seems to indicate a well known problem with the capacitors on the Onkyo's HDMI board going bad, and likely this requires a service.

Please advise as to the next steps. I assume a PM to yourselves with my details?

    Thanks,
    John

    Hi John,

Really sorry to hear about the issues with the Onkyo :(

As you're covered under our Supercare cover we can have the amp looked at by one of our engineers.  If you'd like to PM me your details I'll add notes to your account.

The amp can then be dropped into the Belfast store.  Or posted up, bare in mind if the amp is being posted it will need to be packed very well to prevent any damage in transit.

Let me know if you'd like to post the amp up and I can give you our details.

    Chris

Just wanted to say thanks to the RicherSounds guys
After an agreed upon delay for Christmas, the Onkyo is now on its way to be serviced.

Looking forward to having it back - I had forgotten the horror of TV stereo.

    Hi John.

I had a quick check on our repair system  and it is showing as with the Repair agents.

They do not open at the weekend but first thing Monday morning and get an update and revert back.

    Hi MrPunch.

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you.

The repair is currently in progress by the engineer as of the 21st. Fingers crossed it should not be much longer!!

As soon as it is back through our door we will be straight on the phone to you.

Again apologies for the delay with this repair.

Sorry to keep bumping the thread.
Has there been any further update on this?
Alternatively, can you please check with GenServe on Monday how it is going and then let me know?

    Thanks guys.

    Mr. P,

really apologies for the delay with this unit - Genserve tell us that it was repaired on Friday, is on soak test and will leave for us tomorrow - hopefully getting to us for Thursday - We will check it out our end before we ship it back but hopefully you will have it for the holiday weekend.

Apologies again and keep us posted if we can assist..

PS ( you want to see the bill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lucky you took out the 5 year supercare )

    Thanks guys,
Looking forward to having it back.

Very impressed with the Supercare and thank you loads for getting things sorted and handling things so easily.

I do hope the repair bill wasn't too crippling.
Poor of them to charge so much for what was likely down to a flaw in the entire Onkyo **6 range from that time period - (if it was indeed the capacitor issue I suspected)

I guess I'll try and buy some more stuff from you to help compensate :)

    Thanks,
    John

Great ! A nice new speaker package might just cover it.

The unit has arrived back into us today and we're just going to wire it up and run it on test here for a bit before we ship it back to you.

I'll let you know if we come across any issues.

    Thanks guys,
I'll start off slightly smaller initially :)

I'm interested in a couple of items from the catalogue on RS.ie (and on the rs.com site).
Can you confirm if you have (or can get) the following please:

1x QED uPlay Puck Bluetooth dongle (http://www.richersounds.com/product/wireless-docks,-speakers-and-portables/qed/uplay/qed-u-play)
    - For the Onkyo

    1x Cambridge Audio AUD100 7.5m (http://www.richersounds.com/product/hi-fi-interconnects/cambridge-audio/aud100-7.5m/camb-aud100-7.5m)
    - Replacing my current poor Maplin cable for my sub-woofer. Although shorter (~3-5m) would also do.

    30meters x Cambridge Audio Symphony 300 (http://www.richersounds.ie/asp/product.asp?ObjectID=938&Mode=0&CategoryID=5&sub=81&productid=568)
    - The living room layout was "reorganised" on me, so I'll need to redo my wiring layout once I get the Onkyo back.

    Cheers,
    John

Hi John, small acorns grow into large oaks ! Be careful !

The good news is that we have all of these in stock at the moment.

How many metres of cable do you need and I'll work you out an overall price ?
