    Hi folks
I purchased a couple of months old plasma off a friend. It was bought from a retailer with their own five year warranty and I'm guessing a 12 month manufacturers warranty. I contacted the shop to see if they would transfer the warranty is to my name but they are refusing. Now I'm not surprised really but on the other hand it wouldn't cost them anything. There is nothing wrong with the TV but it's a pretty high end set and I'd hate to be stranded if something goes wrong in twelve months. The lad I bought it from said he'd deal with the shop if there are any issues down the line but I'd prefer a cleaner situation.
    Cheers mick

The shop has no obligation at all towards you.

Their contract is with the person who purchased the TV. Warranty, in general, isn't transferrable, unless the manufacturer specifies that it is. Even then, you would have no consumer rights, only what the manufacturer will give you.

Did your pal buy the extended warranty (oh for the love of God why...)? Does he have the documentation that came with the warranty? What does it say about transfer? What does it say about a cash in value? Is your mate likely to be off somewhere in the next while? There is nothing to stop him making a claim if something goes wrong.

The warranty cane free with the TV but it's from the shop as opposed to the manufacturer. All I have us the receipt. Ah well fingers crossed nothing goes wrong. My experience with electronics is that if they don't fail in the first couple of months they usually are fine

I'd not have said anything and just wandered in with the receipt if anything went wrong. Precisely why receipts aren't the be all and end all of proof of purchase.

In relation to the failure thing... that's been my experience also.
