How to protect acrylic nails?

Hi got mine done yesterday, I'm wondering though how to protect them from perils such as cooking, (baking tonight) , washing, in the shower and even removing ashes from the fireplace? Gloves were recommended, but very hard to get plastic gloves on over extended nails and even then they might burn if near heat? I'd appreciate advice, Merry :)Christmas

Edit * part of one has just snapped as I opened the wardrobe door, oh it hurt :)

The only thing I've found to weaken them is cleaning chemicals ie washing up liquid, kitchen spray cleaner, etc. Wear gloves when handling those.
    Besides that, they shouldn't break.
