You're pretty much alone in the opinion if you think that all he contributes is the occasional free kick. Perhaps it was last year's DVD?

Nah. You're wrong, he's been immense.

    My team:

    Howard
    Coleman Mertesacker Jagielka Evra
    Ozil Ramsey Yaya Lallana
    Suarez Aguero

Tough choice between Lallana and Hazard.

But he is. He has been pretty much faultless so far. Even if you don't think he's been the best, to say he has been nowhere near the best is a bit of a stretch in fairness.

I'd probably go with him as my number one over Howard, not much between them but De Gea's distribution swings it.

    GK - Howard
    DR - Coleman
    DC - Evans
    DC - Jagielka
    DL - Shaw
    MF - Ramsey
    MF - Toure
    MF - Ozil
    AM - Rooney
    AM - Aguero
    ST - Suarez

    Howard
    Coleman
    Jagielka
    Evans
    Shaw

    Toure

    Ramsey
    Ozil

    Rooney
    Aguero

    Suarez

The full backs provide most of the width, the front three are all interchangeable, the midfield is solid and very creative. Got to give Everton plenty of respect for how well they have defended so far, this merits the inclusions of Howard and Jagielka and obviously Coleman

Gareth Barry can actually feel a little hard done by to not make the final XI, he has been a super signing for Everton.

In fairness that would be some team

Meh, I know he has a high no. of assists but really he hasn't set the place alight. Definitely not as much as people claim he has.

He isn't the type of player who gets on the ball that much but he is a master at creating chances

I think what he adds to the team was well summed up by Jose in his pre-match comments.
“He arrived, Arsene [Wenger] gave him the shirt, immediately he starts playing and immediately the team becomes better.

"He's a phenomenal player. He's one of those players that you buy and you complete the puzzle of your team."

"I know his strong points. Not the weaknesses," Mourinho added.

"I think I know how to try to stop him to be in the game [for] 90 minutes, with 90 minutes of direct influence.

"But it's impossible to stop him for 90 minutes, because these kind of players they will have always a moment or a couple of moments where you cannot stop them and they end up showing why they are so good.

"To stop him completely, I don't believe we can."

4 goals, 7 assists so far in the League. I think he'll add a lot more to that now Walcott is back.

    Mignolet
    Coleman, Jagielka, Mertesacker, Baines
    Barry
    Ozil, Ramsey, Lallana
    Aguero, Suarez

Mignolet- was a toss up between him and De Gea, but Mignolet takes it. Has been fantastic for Liverpool who probably has earned Liverpool 5 or 6 points so far.

Coleman- Easy choice. Great attacking wise and much more composed defensively of late.

Jagielka- At the heart of the best defence in the league, he has been immense.

Mertesacker- Gets a lot of ribbing for his lack of pace but has been the best defender in the league performance wise.

Baines- Probably the hardest position to choose. Usualy Cole, Baines and Evra would be vying for this spot but noone of them have been setting the place alight. Baines take it, barely.

Barry- His performances have been fantastic this season along side McCarthy. His awareness and tactical nous has helped Everton no end this season.

Ramsey- His goals and overall play has been sensational. Needs to keep it up if Arsenal want to continue this charge.

Ozil- Has came in and boosted everyone at the Emirates. Has had great games but he has gone missing in some of the big games.

Lallana- at the heart of everything good southampton create. Great on the ball with very quick feet. Has came on a lot in the past 8-12 months.

    Aguero- Goals and more goals.

Suarez- Goals, goals, and more goals.

What do you want him to be doing? He is one of the most creative players in the world, were you expecting a midfielder who ran the game and dictated? Never been his style, he will kill you with a couple of passes even if he does nothing else all game.

He is always going to be worthy of his place in any team. Cant believe how stupid Madrid were

Ya I just have him there because he's the best right back in the league and when he plays Utd look a way better team. Can really influence games from there more than anyone else and also Valencia plays way better with Rafael supporting him.

Coleman/Zabaleta are more worthy form wise but it's my biased choice.

    Coleman
    Koscielny
    Jagielka
    Shaw

    Yaya
    Ramsey

    Ozil

    Suarez----Rooney
    Aguero

    Close ones:
Zabaleta, would make it every other year but Coleman is in great form.
Baines, will probably be in at end of year, best LB in the league just has missed a good few games at this time.
Lovern, been excellent, has given Southampton defensive stability after their defence looked like a joke at stages last year
Cabaye, playing excellently, dead ball specialist with good work ethic, again would be in any other year
Hazard, playing very well, wanted to put him in but couldnt get him into he above formation and he doesnt play the ozil role.

Surprised people are putting Ozil in to be honest. Mate is an Arsenal fan so seen a lot of their games and although he plays well, he certainly hasn't been as dynamic as he can be.

    -Mignolet-

    -Coleman-Mertesacker-Lovren-Shaw

    -Lallana-Toure-Gerrard-Cabaye

    -Aguero-Suarez-

The form of out and out winners this year has been awful. Bit of a shame as thier supposed to be the most exciting to watch. Ozil and Hazard have been far too inconsistent but almost get in by default.

Gerrard has a lot of goals/assists, mainly because he's on penalties/set pieces but he's been more of a weak link rather than a key player as an actual CM for Liverpool this season IMO.

Doesn't deserve to be anywhere near this thread I think.

I was tempted to stick in the Beast upfront as his partnership with Kun has been outstanding this season, but
    A. I didn't want to be accused of club bias (so I only stuck in 4 city players!).
    B. How could you leave Suarez out?

Lallana and Cabaye are not wingers in a 4-4-2 though. It would be a lot easier not to include Ozil if we were all to put players in their wrong positions just for the sake of fitting them in.

Ozil is in many teams because he's played on the sides quite a bit and has a record far superior to any other wide player in the league this year with the exception of Hazard.

That's fine; everyones entitled to their opinion. I don't have a problem with that. I just think that he makes our midfield tick and, of his type, is one of the best players in the prem. Way ahead of Ozil, who flatters to deceive and seems to have gone missing lately. Yet he's getting his share of nominations on here. As you said; opinions. I was actually torn between Silva and Yaya (aka ''The Man Mountain'', with thanks to MOTD2 for that!).

On his day Silva is better than Ozil and in fairness Silva has been more consistent than Ozil this season, Ozil may have had the bigger impact at the start but when comparing stats and given that Silva has played less games they're relatively even.

Some crazy picks in here, mad how differently people view things. I'm surprised to see Johnny Evans in so many teams, there've been some far more impressive centre backs this season, its between Mertesacker, Jagielka and Lovren IMO. Sakho is an odd one as well, he's been very good in the past 3 games, but he hasn't played enough to be included. Gerrard is also an outrageous inclusion, most Liverpool fans have been slightly disappointed by him this season I would have thought.

    My team:

    Howard

    Shaw
    Mertesacker
    Jagielka
    Zabaleta

    Toure
    Ramsey
    Barkley

    Rooney
    Aguero
    Suarez

Honourable mentions to Coleman, Lallana, Sturridge, Lovren & Lukaku

Ozil is better in front of goal so edges him.
