Makes a change (for me anyway) to see planes diverting from Shannon to Dublin - seen it so many times the other way round

    Ryanair up next ETA 17.35!

I have that Ryanair cleared to land RWY 24

    Mod Note

These reports are more suited to the Aviation forum. They are detracting from discussing the weather models and the approaching storm

Getting good and blustery now in West Limerick.

Getting the kids ready for bed and after they settle down its an evening / night with the laptop, anemometer and plenty of coffee.

Been waiting for one like this for a few years now :)

Need to travel to Limerick tomorrow from Dublin and had originally been planning to travel in the morning - best to leave it until around lunchtime or later?

Lads, relax on that running commentary on diverted/circling flights. It's a new thing on this weather forum and quite distracting. As well as being a bit creepy with all the 'will he make it' stuff

Tony Gilbert on UKWW believes a sting jet occlusion will form with this storm and cross Ireland in the early morning. This is worrying and hopefully he's wrong about this.

What are the implications for a 'sting jet occlusion'

The storm is still out in the Atlantic.

I know. I'm just saying, that in the last few storms over the past weeks we had, didnt really effect kilkenny very badly.

Nothing bad enough to stop you from going outside, like a normal strong windy day.

    +1

Any of our learned contributors have an opinion on where that would be felt if it happened?

    An area of severe/damaging winds.

It'll still be stormy enough even if that doesn't happen though.

Check the last three posts from a poster "MT Cranium" if you can isolate his posts in the last 23 hrs, he's explained the most at risk areas and why, even posting his own map.

Just after having our first real strong sustained gusts in Castlebar in the last few minutes, pouring down rain as well, really do not want to go out tonight in this.

Talking about weather data from Airports is grand I'm sure. Discussing flight radars, flight diversions and speculation as to whether or not a flight will make the landing or not is best left to the aviation forum where I'm sure there are plenty of people creaming themselves at the thought of flights being diverted all over the place.

Picking up a bit now in Galway city. Still raining and wind getting stronger.

As of 17:00, Mace Head Weather Station has a gust of 52kt with Sherkin at 46kt.

Will be travelling on the early ferry from Dublin to Holyhead tomorrow morning (seasickness pills at the ready) - should be interesting!
