Gust of 87km/hr from the south which is impressive given we are on the side of the hill sheltered a bit from that direction.
Should be interesting when the winds swing around and fully exposed with the stronger winds.
    North Kilkenny.

the nullschool wind map only updates every 3 hours, it's showing things as they were at 6pm so it won't update till 9pm.

Its really getting worryingly stormy here in East Meath. Its a long time since I have experienced such strong and sustained wind. I reckon I will have damage tonight, the slates are hopping on the roof and its very scary to listen to. Keep safe everyone, don't take any chances.

Tis quite crazy down here in tramore, high tide isnt until 11pm or so and the tide was already past the high tide mark at 8pm. Its gusting at 70ish km/hr but the temp has shot right up to a balmy 9.8 c. im considering putting the fire out cause for the first time ever the wind is gusting down the chimney and the room keeps filling with smoke but i am expecting the electicity to go at any stage, iv havnt seen it this bad for many many years

To everyone saying there's been a drop in the wind, what we've had so far is just the front passing through, the wind associated with the storm won't peak until tonight

Here in Donegal, frequent gusts to 80kph, sustained 56kph at the moment.

Good evening. In less than an hour a mega storm will hit our shores. And we will be launching the largest search and rescue mission in this history of mankind.
Mankind -- that word should have new meaning for all of us today.
We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore.
We will be united in our common interests.
Perhaps its fate that today is boxing day, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom, not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution -- but from annihilation.
We're fighting for our right to live, to exist.
And should we win the day, boxing day will no longer be known as a drinking holiday, but as the day when this island declared in one voice:
"We will not go quietly into the night!
We will not vanish without a fight!
    We're going to live on!
    We're going to survive!"
Today, we celebrate our Borrow a Generator Day!!

Back down to 20kts in Cobh according to http://86.43.106.118/cobh-spike.html .

Presumably the front has passed and we're in the dead zone before the winds go SW. SW winds will be better for us personally as instead of hitting the main windows it'll hit the corner of the house.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,134 ✭✭✭✭maquiladora

The lull is clearly visible at Cobh now as the back of the front passed over.

The strongest winds will push into the southwest late tonight and over the southern half of the country during the early hours of the morning.

Extremely wild here near Clonakilty with severe gusts, it definitely feels as if it keeps getting stronger, at the moment it reminds me of the storm of Christmas eve 1997 and we have not even seen the worst of the storm yet, very worrying :( stay safe everyone

Looks like that plane going into Cork has backed off.

    May be going around again.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,361 ✭✭✭Itsdacraic

Things very wild in Limerick at the moment. Just back from visiting about 10 miles away and it was some of the worst conditions I've ever drove in. Driving rain and very strong gusts.

Gusts here in Kildare getting very strong now. Fence looks like it's about to implode, also Internet is getting very intermittent unusually. Anybody else having broadband issues?
Recent gust on the Davis 77KPH!

I have to travel from mallow to Dublin in the morning for work. Will be leaving at 6.am will it be very dangerous to drive? Getting worried now.

Casement aerodrome, no doubt the proximity of the hills are having an influence

    EIME 262000Z 15040G56KT 8000 -RA FEW015 SCT040 BKN050 06/04 Q0974

also the pressure at Dublin airport has fallen 3mb in 30 minutes.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,513 ✭✭✭✭M.T. Cranium

This is entirely mind-boggling to see that pressure has dropped 39.4 mbs in 13 hours at the K4 buoy (now just a shade over 950 there). Wind has been dropping off there past hour, eye must be about over the M6 buoy or what's left of it.

For most of us here weather like this can be exciting but the last thing any of us want is damage or god forbid loss of life..
Just spent the last 10 mins securing the trampoline, as it had began to lift in the wind, and retrieving other garden bits that had gone awol. The scary and worrying thing for me is this is only the start and the worst is to come so please stay safe folks and stay inside
