In regards to my previous post.

Cant really see much, but there was a large tree trunk suspended across the road about 5-10ft in the air, hanging from it left right and centre were powerlines and smaller branches all over the road. If it wasnt for the other car on the opposite I could have easily drove in through it or under it.
The woman in it said she nearly hit it.

130m = 8.4hPa, so that would suggest a mean sea level pressure reading of 939hPa in Roscommon? I doubt if that's right. Seems too low when you look at the Met Eireann readings.

Apologies if I'm wrong on this, but...
    Nope. According to my calculation:

    Absolute pressure (currently) 929.4 hPa

    Temperature 6.2 C

    Altitude 130 m

    MSLP calculated = 944.2 hPa

Still howling out there, no let up for hours now, lights have been flickering a lot and the tv is very fuzzy at times.

Gone oddly quite here now for the last 5 mins.
Its very high in the sky, but no major impact on the trees near the house.

at the risk of being shouted at, it has to be bad when this thread is growing faster than I can read the f****n thing!!!!!

It's still blowing hard here (Clare) without much of a let up for the last 6 hours. Direction is now more southerly than it was but not gone right round to SW yet. Looking at the charts the worst is still offshore, so it's going to be an "interesting" night

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

I hear my slate trim banging away out there.
Hopefully the only part of it that will loosen.
    Carrigtwohill getting very gusty again.

We're just seeing the start of the winds now.

We're in for a long night of it.

Ugh case of beer in car bout 35 yards from front door in Galway, worth it?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,235 ✭✭✭Oneiric 3

Impressive squall of hail/rain just passed through. Mean speed shot up to 30 kt. Gust 55. Opened the front door for a look and got an instant drenching.

    New Moon

It was very bad and lights flashing here in Killarney, Kerry at about 8pm then it died down for a while. Starting up very ferociously again now. I am surrounded by trees and If I open the window it sounds like I am at sea.

I'm happy to agree to disagree, but Mt Dillon in Roscommon is slowing 958 at the moment. Seems like a big difference over a very short distance.

Won't have to use the leafblower tomorrow, the leaves around the house seem to have.... gone.

That's exactly what it sounds like here, we're surrounded by huge evergreens.

    No.

A head shot from flying debris or roofing material could potentially be fatal.

    Stay put.

Im surprised that my power / internet / SKY have not had any outages tonight so far. The lights were flickering at around 8PM, but the supply has been steady since. Our power often goes during a bad storm (North Tipp / Lim border).

    *touches wood*

Yes save the beer, you'll be gutted if your car blows away with beer in it. :D
