Cork City Northside is really starting to get bad. By the looks of this, it's only just hitting properly now. Still waiting on rain though. It's been intermittent. Anyone with links to coastal webcams? FOund a few but they're either offline, or you see nowt.

Yeah, some big wind. I'm living in this house seven years and I never heard wind like it. The noise from the roof is unreal. No sleep tonight for me or the poor dog who's still hiding under the Christmas tree.

If your roof does start to lift open the windows and doors on the leeward side of the building

As your roof is blowing off, calmly open the windows and doors...

Google maps says there's no Mt Dillon in co. Roscommon. :o

Knock airport is the nearest weather station to me, but AFAIK may show slightly out of date information. ;)

One roof was already reported blown off this evening.

It was thei roof from a dog house

CUH suffered structural damage this evening.

What sort of roof are you concerned about? House, farm building, garden shed etc?

House roof, making very loud banging noises at the moment.

    Location.

Have you considered an evacuation route if things go bad?

Flying debris can injure you. If you have to get out, consider the direction you will go and where you will go.

Formulate a plan now and if the worst happens you won't be running about like a headless chicken but will be heading to a definate location.

Hope all works out well and you stay safe.

Yeah. all the surf cams along the coast are offline too, but you wouldn't see much in the dark anyway

Just opened the back door in the northside of cork city, and the wind is so strong that I barely had the door open and it blew in. It seem to be a bit nasty now.

You can scoff all you want but its actually official advice.
You might be able to save it if its just starting.
Low pressure on the leeward side sucks the roof back down.

What's the forecast for tomorrow night? Flying back to Dublin. Checked on Dublin airport's web and some flights were cancelled today... :(

Wouldn't there have to be no ceiling in the house for that to work?

    Chainsaw ready and waiting! :D

I bought one the other day. Should be some decent timber felled over night lol.

If anyone's roof gets blown off, could they kindly inform us here before taking the next step. Otherwise, we could possibly say that this thread has run its course.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,537 ✭✭✭KKkitty

Quiet where I am in Carlow at the moment.

    Location?

Stay indoors. Worst thing you could do is go outside to investigate. There's unlikely anything you can do to fix what ever is causing the noise.

Far too high a risk of injury to you at the moment.

Stay safe and keep us informed.

Have you contacted relatives or neighbours in case you need to evacuate?

Plan an evacuation route. If you do have to go, you want to consider flying debris as a serious hazard.

There are a few night cams, like Inchidoney, but nothing too spectaculare to see other than 3 civics and about 2 milimetres of wave on the screen.
