You could argue that your driving could be impaired after even the tiniest amount of alcohol. However as an earlier poster said other things would have much more of am impact. e.g, tiredness, weather, light, passengers, music etc.

The point was the OP was using the shot of whiskey to justify his refusal to pick up this person and felt self righteous in doing so. If I were there I would have been annoyed.

You should have just been honest and said you didn't want to pick him up.
He should have been more honest in his excuse for his refusal.

I was in now way shape or form "dishonest" in what I said.
He had drunk one measure of whiskey some time before he was asked to collect this person.

    What I said was:

I had just finished one measure of JD

No way you were legally over and shouldn't havoc used it as an excuse.

When did I do that? You should read a little slower.

Not once did use the legal limit as an excuse. What I said was that I didn't "feel comfortable" driving after having the drink and so I would collect the person in an around an hour and a half, which is what I did.

I also said in the OP:
I personally think there should be a zero tolerance and the limit should be even lower than it is currently..

..which also backs up the fact the legal limit was not the main reason that I felt uncomfortable driving after having that drink.

I would say id be safer than 90% of sober drivers if I had up to 4 pints.

Would never do it for fear of losing my licence.

It's amazing how everyone in the country is a great driver and it's everyone else that's a bad driver. The truth is more likely to be that your an average driver and do many things wrong but think your a good driver. That's without factoring in the 4 pints you reckon you could drink too.
