Affordable innovations for around the house?

Does anybody have any suggestions for relatively cheap gadgets or innovations around the home? Stuff that makes every day tasks better/easier. I've tried Googling but it tends to give you some pretty major expensive things instead!

For example I think I'd like some sort of remote controlled light, so I can turn it on/off without getting out of bed

These look to be pretty decent and you can get creative with them. Don't cost the earth either and look easy to install
