The difference between Liverpool's heroic title bid and Tottenham's shambolic season is a massive 2 points then :D

Good performance and result but Stoke were pitiful.

Good win, but Soldado's finishing is becoming a worry.

Yea he's had a few chances in the last couple of games, just won't go in for him

Soldado was excellent from general play though and linked up really well with the midfield and Adebayor

The goals will come and even if they don't if he keeps playing like today it won't matter too much

The difference one game makes. Doom and gloom after 1-1 with West Brom and now Tim Sherwood is great again.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,467 ✭✭✭mushykeogh

How was our central midfield today?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,632 ✭✭✭Glebee

Not sure about Tim Sherwood being great, when the pressure really comes on him god only knows what hes like. Stoke were average at best. Im sure we will get a swift fall back down to earth against Man U and the Arsenal, although heres hoping. United are poor and an upset can happen in the cup.. Maybe it is a confedence thing with the players and a few good results can only help that.

You should have a read of some of the comments on the west brom thread. In comparison to that Tim Sherwood is looking great in this thread.

I suppose thats always the way though. A good result and alls forgotten.

Tim Sherwood is far from great (yet) but even though Stoke were poor today it was refreshing to see us finally pressing with tempo. The slow slow style of AVB was very poor to watch. Style today was very similar to under Harry..

Dembele has an amazing knack of being able to shield the ball, it is almost impossible to take it off him. Good to see him scoring today, hopefully many more to come.

Exactly. Under avb I would wager nobody would even entertain the idea we'd beat Stoke 3-0 at home, especially how much we've regressed this season. Great win-finally!

Apparently Paulinho was throwing some serious samba shapes, can't wait to see MOTD..

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,019 ✭✭✭davycc

yea he was like Pele flickiking the ball past everybody and even created a few shooting chances for others with perfectly weighted 1st time passes..

then charlie fecking adam goes and breaks him up like the dopey cave man thug he is ..hope he aint out for too long..was full of beans today after his few games rest

Ah I see, that's why he came off after 62', Adams is a knuckle dragger!

Good write up on Dembele's stats here (what is that Hatch fella talking about:P) http://www.squawka.com/news/2013/12/29/spurs-15m-dazzler-completes-97-of-his-passes-as-tottenham-destroy-stoke/2013122948190?

Good to see Fryers getting a run out at LB, should of happened a long time ago considering our lack of cover in this area. Heard Naughton had a solid game too in his natural RB position.

Tbh that was a pretty pathetic performance from Stoke so I wouldn't sing the praises just yet. Having said that tho there are glimpses of cohesion from the team, something we did not get under AVB.

Didn't think Paulinho was great, few tricks and flicks yea, but he didn't contribute much to our general play.

  • Registered Users Posts: 444 ✭✭PVincent

You were not watching the same game as me so if you thought he contributed little. See the highlights and how many driving runs he makes. Why when we beat someone do so many spurs fans refuse to praise and instead be critical of the opposition. Stoke were poor because we had the ball most of the time. Surely that is something to praise. Give your own team some credit when it is deserved

Stoke wouldn't have lost 5-1 to Newcastle if they had 11 men on the pitch. They had 9.

I have the game recorded as wasn't able to get up at 2am last night due to a medical today. Will try watch it later and see for myself if Paulinho was playing like he does with the Brazil team or not!

You must have had a bad steam, I thought he was great. Now if only he'd take some shooting lessons

Typical of MOTD to edit out most of the best Paulinho bits

Liked the praise of Ade and Soldado tho.
Soldados working his socks off for the team. You can see the desire to do well for the team in his face.
Into double figures in all competitions and he's hardly got out of 2nd gear.

  • Registered Users Posts: 609 ✭✭✭Left Back on the Bench

When he passed the ball to lennon and ade nearly got in the way and then Lennon scored he actually looked really pleased

Watching the recording of the game now. At the 60th minute and thus far (re Soldado) he has been brutal.

Service is the problem? Give me a break.

Can say ok to Adebayor missing a couple of sitters as he's still not quite at match fitness but Soldado now has not got any excuses.
