lightning in naas 2 mins ago

Was about to say that there was no chance as the radar is clear but a strike has just shown up on net weather radar north of newbridge and west of sallins....weird!!!

Still some big gusts and lightening in Naas

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,235 ✭✭✭Oneiric 3

Beginning to get a little bit more serious in east Galway right now. Gust speeds not exceeding those of St. Stephen's night but oddly, it sounds wilder for some reason. Rain is getting gradually heavier too.

    Forecast map for 6 am. Gale 8 = 34 kt - 40 kt. Strong gale 9 = 41 kt - 47 kt and Storm 10 = 48 kt +

Still quite windy here (by the Curragh) but just normal storm windy, not as violent as it was earlier on.
Strangely, just before it got violent earlier on it was dead calm for about 15 minutes, you could hear a pin drop, then all of a sudden you could hear the wind rumbling up the road like an express train before it hit.

Living in a timber house in Tipperary and things sound a lot wilder then what they were Stephens night. Gusts seem to be more frequent tonight/this morning but not stronger.

Rain is beginning to pick up though. Having a cuppa with the father before he heads off to East Limerick for work, anyone got any info on conditions there?

Storm woke me up half an hour ago. Its been fairly gusty in Tralee all night although not as bad as St. Stephens night. Oddly enough there hasn't been a lot of rain, just a few heavy showers, I've seen it a lot worse than tonight.

Gotten really wild here on the Donegal coast now as well, a sustained roar from the wind and heavy rain lashing against the window. My nearest station on wunderground had picked the perfect time to go offline so i have no idea on intensity unfortunately. Max gust at 1am was 97kph and it's got a lot stronger since then so I'd estimate about 120kph. Sustained wind at a guess is around gale force 8

Losing phone and internet signal now so think I'll pack it in for the night after this
