Managed about two hours sleep before being woken, it has been non stop in Castlebar since about half 12, far worse than Stephens night, can see a lot of reports of damage popping up come daybreak and the violent gusts just keep on coming.

Definitely some of the worst flooding for a few years in Galway city
The City Council are warning to avoid all coast routes through the city - The Prom, Grattan Rd, Claddagh, Fr Griffin Rd, Wolfe Tone Bridge, Spanish Parade, Docks
Still gusting up to 40 knots here though the winds seem to have peaked just before 5AM

EDIT: Water levels are receding now. It's bad in parts of Galway but its in the areas that are well used to flooding and generally well-prepared for it

huh? isn't a red herring "a diversion intended to distract attention from the main issue." so what red herring and what's the main issue?

Lots of power outages. About 4000 without power now. The number mean it will take quite a while to fix.

Well done again MT ,Galway Harbour said that the wind at the docks reached catagory 1 hurricane force, as I said earlier this should have been a red alert from ME, Leisureland has been damaged and flooded, houses and business premises flooded in the City and Salthill.

There is huge debris from the sea all over Salthill rocks as big as cars moved off the sea protection wall

Got that info from a friend in emergency service
