Hi all, I'm visiting Galway in 1 week and wondering what your opinion on it is in terms of, are the floods really bad? Is the city still ok? Are tourist spots ok to still visit?

Just lookin for some heads up. Worst case scenario, you recommend not going there?

    Thanks ;)

    Irish coast guard -
During the current weather storm and high tides specific advice from the Coast Guard is:
    * The public is advised to stay away from the shoreline and to avoid engaging in water sports
    * Do not venture out unnecessarily when gale force conditions are forecast
    * Avoid exposed coasts, cliff paths and coastal areas during inclement weather this week
    * Owners of small vessels and fishing vessels in coastal waters should seek shelter and secure them properly with moorings.
If you do see someone in difficulty in the sea, on the shore, cliffs, lakes or rivers, dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard

21:05 update from Met....some thunder for the west overnight....

    Today
Cool and windy overnight with occasional heavy showers. The showers will be heavy and prolonged in the west with a risk of thunder, hail and localised flooding. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 6 degrees.
    hr.gif

    Tomorrow

Mostly cloudy and very showery tomorrow. The showers will be heavy and frequent with the risk of hail and thunder - especially across the south and west. Very strong southwest winds with further severe gusts. Highest temperatures of 7 to 9 degrees.

    Outlook

There is still the risk of coastal flooding with high tides and some strong winds at the start of the week. However it will become less windy from Tuesday onwards, with largely dry weather until later in the week.

The windy weather will continue overnight on Monday, with heavy, possibly thundery showers along western and southern coasts. Lows of 4 to 6 degrees.

Tuesday will be another breezy day, with more heavy showers in Atlantic coastal counties. The fresh southwest winds will continue and will be strong along coasts. Much of Leinster and east Ulster should remain largely dry. Highs of 8 or 9 degrees. Winds will ease off on Tuesday night and temperatures will drop to between 2 and 4 degrees.

Wednesday will bring an improvement in the weather with just occasional showers in parts of the west. It will be less windy too with light southerly winds. Highs of 7 to 10 degrees. Some outbreaks of rain look like affecting eastern parts overnight, with lows of 0 to 3 degrees.

Thursday will be a similar day, largely dry with light winds. A little cooler with highs of 6 to 8 degrees. A cool start to Thursday night, with a touch of frost, but rain will move into the west coast towards the morning.

This rain will spread eastwards through Friday, with moderate winds

So glad to be back up & running! What a day for boards.ie to be down!!!

Back to business, high tide tonight in Galway has passed & thankfully no high winds for it so tomorrow mornings at 8:32am will be the one to watch. All quiet weather wise at the moment here although no doubt that will change in the next few hours!!

Very mixed day in Limerick, sunny right up to about 3pm, then the heavens opened (even would call it torrential for a couple mins). Starry sky right now and quite still. A little bit of wind earlier, didn't notice anything too severe.

A very dramatic forecast there from Siobhan :D

Can't see the exceptional winds though?

However i suppose with the phenomenal seas it best to try and warn people that it will be severe near the coasts ;)

I wouldn't be expecting to see stormy conditions anywhere apart from the south/southwest/west coastal areas, and even there the forecasted winds won't be as strong compared to recent storms.

The main risk will be of more coastal flooding in the morning, especially in places that have had their coastal defences damaged or eroded by the last storm.
