Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Seriously have you seen the energy that Gary B is generating tonight?!

The kids these days don't realise that Gary Barlow is the John Lennon/Elvis Presley/Michael Jackson of our generation combined. It's Gary ****ing Barlow for Christ's sake.

God you're so 2013 like with your text messages

I love Madness and have seen them live before and they are great entertainers but Gary Barlow was fantastic on BBC - the audio quality certainly helped, RTEs audio quality is akin to a you tube clip.

Well I've had a great new year anyway.. Thank you very much Sinead Daithí RTE Ryan Sheridan Madness copious amounts of alcohol.

To give RTE some credit, it must be difficult to come up with a format that really hits the mark, and lets face it they can't compete with London for the fireworks, so they need to find a formula that works for them, and I think that this year (with Madness as their main act) was their best yet. There still seems to be a big problem with the presenters & studio guests though, and for some reason it just seems amateurish and awkward, with the impression that little effort was put in or something? can't put my finger on it.

Anyway, I thought RTEs offering was a slight improvement over last years.

Just havin' a laugh at the bizarre nature of the thread. I love the Kinks and I barely know who Barlow is.

Every year RTE offers us this presenter/z lister discussion what imho nobody wants - discussing the recession on New Years is a switch off.

As BBC have shown year after year on NYE its non stop music entertainment that the viewer wants.

It's not like it's the first time they have ever organised something like this. They have had some sort of "New Year's Eve Extravaganza" every year, yet every year there seems to be absolutely no organisation to the thing... RTE are more than capable of producing something decent, if all of their top brass weren't off on holidays... If Duffy wanted to come in and act all aloof and Presidential, why the fk didnt he come in and present the thing

I think Ray Davies rocks. And is going strong 50 years later.

I also think Gary Barlow rocks and will be in 50 years time too.

Hey, in sheer volume check out how many song Barlow has written compared to Davies. (not sure about record sales)

What age are you btw? (40's I am imagining for some reason??) I am 30's....

What was the hurry with RTE to finish up, god forbid they should run over on a night like tonight... Gone are the days where Gaybo would go over by 20 minutes... Anyway, Pogues and Dubliners on TG4!

Oh apologies. You like Gary Barlow? Really? Seriously? I'm in my early 30s btw and love the Kinks, never heard a Gary Barlow song apart from Take That which was music for teenage girls in the '90s.

I think Gary Barlow is very talented, there is no requirement for anyone to like or to dislike certain music.
    People have different tastes.

I am also a big kinks fans.

I was never a fan of TT when I was a teenager.

Nowadays I thnk the man is a virtuoso. See you in 50 years when we will be still enjoying his music..like the kinks or the troggs or the beatles.

    Rock on!
