Just looking at the Project Elemental, which looks decent for the price.

I've got a nice Technics Hi-Fi in perfect condition, will it do it justice, it has a phono input..

I've also got a 2040 chip amp and Kef speakers for a squeezebox,( which to my mind sounds amazing) , and could possibly attach it to that with the addition of a phono amp..

    Any toughts..

2040's can sound great, but yes you would need a phono step-up amp like the Cambridge 551P http://www.richersounds.com/product/phono-pre-amps/cambridge-audio/azur-551p/camb-551p-blk or if you wanted to do it on a budget we also have the B-Tech BT26 at just £24.95 http://www.richersounds.com/product/phono-pre-amps/btech/bt26-pre-amp/b-te-bt26prea

If you wanted to add it to your Technics - the Elemental is a really super turntable, we have them available in stock and ready to ship - if you would like one just drop us a PM or a mail to sales@richersounds.ie with your contact details and we will get one of the guys to give you a shout to arrange delivery.

Thanks again - apologies for the delay getting back to you and please don't hesitate to drop us a line if we can assist in any way,

    Hi there,
I'm in the market for a decent hifi system but I'm on a tight budget.
I am a complete novice, but in terms of turntable I have been looking at the Project Elemental mentioned above, the Project Essential 2 and the Denon DP200USB (based on their price and reviews read online).
Which of these would you recommend?
And if you were to put them with an appropriate amp and speakers, what total cost would I be looking at?
Any advice and information would be much appreciated!

    Hi John/Dave,

Apologies for jumping into this thread but I am also looking for my first turntable. Will be connecting it to to an Onkyo CR525 via the external source and the Monitor Audio BR1 speakers which I got from yourself a few years ago.

Reading reviews of the Project stuff they seem to be the ones to go for but if there are any shop soiled or returns stuff around as I dont want to spend much after Christmas.

Probably need the cheap preamp and maybe some speaker stands.

    Thanks

    Hi Hibs,

Between the three it would have to be the Elemental.  If you can overlook the lack of a dust cover then you're all good.  Great turntable for the money.

For a good amp check out the Denon PMA720 which is currently priced at just £169.95.  Check the link below for more info:

    http://www.richersounds.com/product/amplifiers-receivers/denon/pma720ae/deno-pma720-blk

The good thing about this amp is that it has a phono stage built in so you can just connect the turntable straight in with no extra pre amps needed.

For speakers how about the Monitor Audio MR1s currently priced at £119.95.  Lovely bookshelf speakers, would sound very well with the Denon and Project.

Let me know what you think.

    Hi Piaget,

A turntable I forgot to mention above is the Marantz TT5005.  Fantastic deck.  Automatic tonearm, built in phono-stage and looks like a traditional turntable which a lot of people like.  For £149.95 it's worth every penny.  Check the link below for more info:

    http://www.richersounds.com/product/turntables/marantz/tt5005/mara-tt5005

Project make excellent turntables but for all of them you'll need the separate phono amp to go along with them.  These start from £24.95 upwards.

For the Monitor Audio's check out the Pixel T50s currently priced at £49.95:
    http://www.richersounds.com/product/speaker-stands/pixel/t50/pixe-t50-stand

Let me know what you think.

    Hi Chris,
Thanks for your reply and the information, all sounds good.
Out of interest, why would you rate the Project Elemental above the Essential 2? To be honest, the lack of a cover on the elemental and the overall look had me slightly leaning towards the Essential 2 but if the elemental is a better turntable for less money I can't really go against that! Had heard that Denon amp was good and if the speakers would work well with that combination then I would be tempted by that. Could you get me a package price for all 3 or would I need to ring the store? Also, how much roughly would the delivery charge be?
    Many thanks.

Hi Hibsman, thanks for the reply.

Just to chuck a curve ball ! I prefer the sound of the Rega RP1. I know this won the review a year or two back, but the sound from this is superb and Rega are one the very few companies who can supply parts for 15 year old turntables !

    http://www.whathifi.com/Review/Rega-RP1/

This is currently £229.95 and if this was my choice, then this is the one that I would have. It's brilliant. Sounds excellent, built well and has a great cartridge.

If not, then the Essential 2 would be the next best option.

I can do the Repa RP1, PMA720 and Pixel stands for £432.84 including delivery.

The Essential would work out at £422.84 including delivery.

If you would like to go for either of these, call us on 0044 333 900 0070 (option 2) or drop us a PM and we'll call you.

Thanks Dave, had heard the Rega was excellent but thought it would be too expensive for my budget. Thanks for all the information, I'll give the store a call tomorrow hopefully.

Thanks very much for all the info Dave. You have certainly given me a bit to think about! Out of interest how much extra would it be to add speaker cables and a connector for an iPod to the package we discussed?

    Hibsman,

Apologies for the delay getting back to you - and I'd 100% back up the earlier comments - the Rega is head and shoulders above pretty much all mid-priced turntables and has a great reputaton and heritage to match!

If you wanted to play your iPod music via the system there are a number of ways you can do this, the first is just to use a 3.5mm> 2 Phono lead and take the music out via the headphone output ( not the best quality, awkward option!) but cost effective - we can do a decent 3.5> Phono lead from just £9.99:
    http://www.richersounds.com/product/hi-fi-interconnects/cambridge-audio/aud100-3.5-1m/camb-aud100-2ph-1m

I think the best option is to use a Bluetooth adaptor - this will allow you to stream music from most phones, Pads and many PC's no matter what make - we stock the excellent QED UPlay Bluetooth adaptor which uses the higher quality APT-X protocol and its excellent value at just £59.95:
    http://www.richersounds.com/product/wireless-docks,-speakers-and-portables/qed/uplay/qed-u-play

In terms of speaker cable, if Boardies are purchasing a system for us we normally try to offer a Boardie special of 25% off the speaker cables - so you can take your pick! My choices would be either the Cambridge Audio Symphony 200 which is normally £1.49/Mtr ( Boardie price £1.09/Mtr) or if you want a really high quality cable I'd highly recommend the excellent QED Ruby Anniversary cable at £4.39/Mtr
    http://www.richersounds.com/product/speaker-cables/qed/ruby-anniversary-custom/qed-ruby-anni-custom

Thanks, again apologies for the delay and keep us posted if we can assist,
