Thanking this post before I even listen to the track. That's how experimental my music tastes are.

BBNG can do no wrong at the minute, everything they touch turns to gold. Hopefully they'll produce a full project for somebody soon. This track they did for Earl is still one of the best beats I've heard in ages.

Only gave it the one spin in that stream that was going around, nothing on it appealed to me, there last few releases havnt been great my opinion.

After one listen to it, I feel exactly the same. Didn't really like any of it.

I've liked their recent stuff, I think How I Got Over is superb.

If you're diggin BBNG, you should check out Marijuana DeathSquads

There's a few recent albums that I've been listening to a bit. First off is Atmosphere - SouthSiders. In recent times, maybe the last 2 albums, I've been a bit hesitant about Atmosphere, the bits I hear before the album is released tend to sound like the same song rehashed. But then I listen to the full length and love it end to end. And it happened again, man i love this album, the little twist of funk in Ants beats are amazing. Such a little tweek chnaged the sound of the album.

The same for Sage Francis, always a little nervous about the new albums he comes out with, but after a few listens, Copper Gone has really sat nicely with me.

Grieves -Winter & The Wolves has also suprised me, top notch from start to finish.

Girl Talk & Freeway - Nice EP, Freeway is one of the dopest rappers out there but production fails him alot. When he had Jake One behind him, he made an excellent album. Girl Talk is a step up from his normal pool of producers, and has some really strong moment.

    Billion, a thousand million.....

Biggest acquisition since they bought the company that made the software/hardware that the first web server and browser was developed on and brought their owner back into the company.

Jimmy has also now stepped down from his role in Interscope.

Great move for Dre and Jimmy, a massive payout, a guaranteed paycheck by becoming 'employees' of Apple, Dre's name will still be on the product.

Gold houses and rocket cars in the pipeline for both of them.

Skyzoo & Torae's "Barrel Brothers" album dropped a few days ago, and it's absolutely bangin'! Hard beats, crazy rhymes, (Skyzoo has improved majorly since The Salvation) quality gully music

Meyhem Lauren & Buckwild () - Silk Pyramids also dropped, haven't listened yet, but heard it's of a similar quality to Barrel Brothers

Riff Raff's album finally surfaced too, not everyone's cup of tea, but if the intro is any indication, (all I've heard along with Versache Python) he's gonna surprise a few people

This has been a good week for hip hop :D

For me summer jam was epic, g unit re-union, nas and 50 and the enjoyment of watching 50 act upon his words and have that slowbucks fella robbed of his chain in front of 70 k had it all for me, gangsta hip hop is alive and well when 50s round.

His music might be average for the best part the last few years but he's worth the sheer energy and controversy alone that he brings. This new fab one is well worth a listen too, love this sound its almost refreshing in todays era.

I don't think I've ever witnessed such a desperate attempt to stay relevant. When did G-Unit disband? Last year? Since then 50 has slated Buck, Banks and Yayo on several occasions. It's no coincidence that this "reunion" took place right before 50's new album release

His new album is deplorable. If he put more effort into his music as opposed to his embarrassing publicity stunts then he might have come up with something half-decent, but he didn't.

I thought 50's departure from Aftermath was a good move but I was clearly wrong. His new album is slated to sell ~30k in the first week. His music career is over.

Tbh I think everyone knew it was going to happen but it was still quality none the less for a fan like me anyway. In all I'm just delighted to have both g unit and dipset together again because gangsta hip hop is on the way out or at least just watered down rubbish.

I'd agree though it's a shocking album, I can only take 2 decent tracks from it. It was a mixtape converted into an album to sell on iTunes to make money.

50s indie now so 30 or 40k is no big surprise, he has no big label backing him. Compare that of an artist on a major selling 100k which seems to be about the norm these days it's not that bad at all, it's a shock because he's sold millions with previous albums but like said he's not that big musically anymore and either's gangsta hip hop.

Just had a quick quick scan, sounds real good, too good to be (present day) Nas....although alot of similarities.

Lots of online sites saying that it's Nas, great news if it is! Could also be some new dude who just sounds the very same as him. I found it hard to tell Action Bronson apart from Ghostface when he first came out, great news if its a new dude as well though!

    dope mixtape though

Also Busta Rhymes has just dropped a new track featuring Eminem:

That AZ track is class! The Busta song is hard to listen to, annoying beat and Busta far from his best.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 25,953 ✭✭✭✭kryogen

Not a fan of the Busta song with Em at all, which is a shame as there would be plenty of potential there from them to make a great song

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,970 ✭✭✭mufcboy1999

its being a very long time since I heard anything from busta I liked, the young money move was a bad one.

I wish tony yayo would just stop rapping, much like I thought in 2005. Good to see the rest of them back.

Also those 2 songs are nearly the opposite of the busta/em song, a lot of chorus.

I've been listening to a backlog of new albums yesterday and today. Here's the skinny.

    Ab-Soul - These Days...
I was excited about this one, but it didn't live up to my excitement. Now, I've only given it one spin, and when the highlight of the album is a Kendrick song, that is an issue....not even a great Kendrick song. The Ride Slow song picked up the pieces of the album, but that was smashed again by the terrible outro/spoken word/shouting/nonsence that closed out the album.
It took my a few listens on his last album for things to sink in, maybe it will e the same this time around.

    Ka - 1200BC
Nice little EP from Ka, didn't see much hype around this at all. Pretty much what you expect from Ka, definitely worth a listen, although it was over just as I was getting into it.

    Sadistik - Ultravoilet
This is f*cking awesome. It's basically taken the next step from the last album, built on all the great nuances from that and built something different and amazing. I dodged a conference call in work, and delayed my lunch just to finish out the album.

Sapient - Eaters Volume Tweo: Light Tiger
I've no recollection of acquiring this, or don't know why I acquired it as Sapient is unknown to me. But gave it a spin anyhow.....and glad I did. Mainly intrumental album with lots of samples, noises, funk and synths.
The songs are a mishmash of different sounds, like track 4 Mansion, it has sounds from the orient, classic break beats, funky synths and tiger noises....and blend together brilliantly. I'm looking forward to listening to this on my good headphones instead of the crappy ones I have in work.
    Excellent album.

Michael Christmas - Is This Art?
I heard this dude a year or so ago and digged him, I mentioned him to a friend back then who has been keeping tabs on him, whereas I have pretty much forgotten about him. But i got the reminder from my friend that there was a mixtape available from him.
And it's a treat, it's real good. Michael Christmas is such a good rapper and the beats are on point.

    Your Old Droog - EP
So it's confirmed it's not Nas. And I can confirm it's great.

    Clipping - CLPPNG
This is possibly the best album I've heard all year. Beats break all convention and sound great, and the rapper dude can rapidy rap his as$ off. Weird in all the right places.

Think this just beats the Ferg/Gibbs/Young Thug track as my favourite track to drop this week; Bronson, Royce and Black Thought over a Statik Selektah banger?

    https://soundcloud.com/statikselekt/statik-selektah-ft-action-bronson-royce-da-59-black-thought-the-imperial-shade-45-rip

On a side note, B.T's verse on here and Rapid Eye Movement stomp the sh!t outta every verse he spat on the new Roots LP

    Fully agree!

What an absolutely mind blowing track! Made even better from the description of the producer from his youtube vid:

The closing track from Sadistik's new album "Ultraviolet" out today on Fake Four Records. Sad and I had the idea of starting the song with that feeling of uncertainty. That feeling you have right before you kind of lose control of everything. Then the song travels to the place where you are completely in your head, yet totally out of your mind. Like having a panic attack. After all of that, the dust starts to settle, and you feel drained, and in some way kind of at peace. Spiraling down the Rabbithole. Being lost, and just letting it happen. One of my favorite songs I have ever done with Sad hands down. We gave it a real 80's vibe as well (which the album kind of has that general tone to it). Terra Lopez (of Sister Crayon) fits perfectly. Almost like another instrument drifting around the sounds building up to the loss of control. She is also one of my favorite female vocalists at the moment. Also, being that it's Sadistik and KCC, we couldn't accomplish all of this without the song being 7 minutes long. Haha. Enjoy, like, share, and most importantly.....

Digging the Action BronsonxRoycexBlack ThoughtxStatik Selektah jam. Black Thought is one of my favorite MCs, it's nice to hear him outside of what he does with The Roots, I think there is a bit more freedom to his writing and delivery. Bit of trivia...he was one of the most feared freestyle/battle rappers back in the day.

I've got the Sadistik album queued up to listen to again today, looking forward to it.

There is another album I've spun that I forgot to metion:

    Pigeon John - Enicio Man
Great album, not your standard hip hop, but lovely to listen to.

.....there's something else as well....just cant remember.

At the moment i'm going through the Ab Soul album again, sounding better on the second run through.

apparent "up & coming" Queens rapper 360 has released a single off his upcoming EP featuring Ja Rule called "Why Should I Care" it samples Toni Braxton’s track of the same name, has an old school vibe off it IMO, only the 3rd time in the last year Ja has been heard on a record he's keeping things close to his chest doesnt want to rush tracks out there
