Yup it really is a 10/10. Cant wait for this second season now, hopefully comes out soon. Cant believe how little attention this gem of a show has got.

I watched this over the weekend. It's the best thing I've watched over the last 6 months - riveting stuff with unbelievable acting all round.

By the end of it I was utterly miserable, drained and exhausted, but I knew I'd just seen something special that will stay with me for a long time.

If the 2nd season manages to tap into what made season 1 so great, then we're in for a treat.

I'll be watching Gracepoint later this year too. I'd prefer angry cranky Scottish David Tennant over his americanised alter ego, but let's see how it goes.

Yep, got my mother to watch it a few weeks ago.. and she absolutely loved it!

Even brief glimpses I rewatched while she was viewing it made me want to give it a fresh watch - maybe closer to season 2.

Regarding Gracepoint, fair enough it's got David Tennant but can't picture anyone else except Olivia Colman as Ellie.. especially not Anna Gunn.

Great minds must think alike: I also finished it this weekend and really liked it, up to and including the reveal of Danny's killer.

Some superb performances - Despite my reservations about Tennant's era on 'Doctor Who' I never doubted that he was a good actor and he really put in a strong performance here. A particular nice surprise was Olivia Colman who was just "Peep Show"'s Sophie to me prior.

Not so sure about a second season though. I mean do we really need to re-visit the town of Broadchurch? I thought the story of that town is done.

Olivia's transformation from happy-go-lucky naive small-town cop to how she was in the finale was masterful.

I quite enjoyed this up until the killers reveal at which point it became to ludicrous for me to come away with anything but disappointment.
Overall though I thought it was a solid 6.5 /10. I really didn't notice any stellar performances from anyone in it . It struck me as a Midsummers Night Murder clone in terms of quality and appeal.
Maybe my opinion was coloured by just having watched Happy Valley and having been blown away by it, in my eyes it was streets ahead in every respect.

I doubt it, wasn't it on 6/9 months after it aired originally?

They do seems to have the rights to it according to this:

Pity that UTV Ireland don't have the rights although UTV Northern Ireland do!
It would be nice to watch it in HD and series link it on Sky Plus!

That's anyone with only UPC bollocksed so as they lose UTV from Northern Ireland on January 1st. Satellite viewers will continue as normal

As ITV/UTV is only available on the 'other channels' on the ROI SKY,viewers here won't be able to record the episodes!

True but at least they'll be able to view them. UPC will be neither able to view or record from UTV Northern Ireland

TV3 are repeating the first series at or shortly after midnight from St Stephens Day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,731 ✭✭✭brian_t

The second series of Broadchurch starts on TV3 at 10.00pm on Monday 5th January.

An hour after it starts on UTV.

I want to watch this but haven't seen series 1. Do I need to in order to follow? Or will watching now ruin (give away) the first series for me?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,286 ✭✭✭ankles

A bit nuts that UTV Ireland aren't showing it although UTV and ITV are. Bad signs for UTV Ireland when they drop one of their highlight shows to make an Irish impact.

Good first episode back. Parallel storylines with the trial and with Hardy's previous murder case should make for interesting viewing in the weeks ahead.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,495 ✭✭✭✭eviltwin

Just watched the first episode on itv. If you haven't seen series 1 you will be completely lost.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,123 ✭✭✭✭Gael23

Don't bother watching if you haven't seen series 1. Despicable out of UTV Ireland not showing it.

hmmmm unfortunately I found that out too late..... now ive ruined the 1st series for myself and I cant really get into this new one tbh!

Outstanding opening episode. Really looking forward to seeing where they go with this series.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,793 ✭✭✭FunLover18

Pretty good episode although there was some bad editing. Danny's mum went from being worried about her husband, not knowing where he is, to being on the beach with him begging the QC to take their case, back to being worried and not knowing where he was.

With regard to UTV Ireland not having it, a deal was made with TV3 for season 1 before UTVI was announced. I would say said deal incorporated any future seasons or maybe UTV weren't sure UTVI would be up and running in time. Shame as they missed out on an instant boom in viewers.

I was distracted during some of the show but I think those were two different times when she didn't know where he was.

Just flicked through the recording there, I was a bit distracted myself, I think you're right.

Disjointed episode imo. Hopefully it was only messy as it was the first episode which had to continue the story thread from last year and introduce the new case and that episode 2 will be better.

They're hardly going to throw in a second case on top of the trial and Tennant's old case, are they?

good to see your one out of Frankie back on the screen, a pity the BBC cancelled that after only one season.

I was lost and I've seen the first series, might be because of having to stay up past bed time to watch on tv3

Set up episode. Always going to be a bit choppy as they catch us up on what's happening and introduce new characters. Thought it was very well done myself.

My bad, I thought you were expecting ANOTHER case on top of that.

If it turns out that the husband didn't do it I'll be pretty pissed. I don't think they're heading in that direction though

I think he seemed to be saying that he wasn't the only one involved, it nearly sounded like he was hinting at a paedophile ring or something, although I hope that's not the case. The minister seemed to be agreeing with the husband that he wasn't the only guilty person, he said "yes but you are the only one who killed a child here". From his nervous expression when the husband mentioned it,it looked like he was involved somehow himself.

My mam has never trusted the minister

I think they're deliberately throwing us a fake there to make us think he was somehow involved.

Although the Dad playing FIFA with Ellie's son is dodgy.... could he start thinking about revenge down the line?
