I notice that a lot of manufacturers are providing alloys as standard on their base models THANK GOD! Sadly the corolla is still crap behind the times.

Christ doesn't the poverty spec Corolla look pure mank? Hubcaps in 2014 like (and I suppose no a/c either)! Imagine paying all that money for such a dire car!

If you look they and base fords most likely have rear drums to :/

I was in dublin today and yesterday and all I saw was an Audi Q3 with fake 141 plates sitting on a forecourt. I was sure I would see loads up there.

Looks woeful. Dunno who in their right mind would pay 20k for the privilege. So many better used cars out there. No air-con in 2014 is a joke. My ma's old 01 civic (base model btw) had a/c as standard!! And Toyota wonder why they are loosing market-share.

Don't think air con matters one little bit to the people buying them.

To be fair, I agree. The type of people who buy those cars think air con is only for "hot" countries, and in Ireland all you need for cooling a car down in the heat is to be able to open the window:rolleyes:! They're totally oblivious to its benefits in cold weather, in particular when it's wet outside.

...and drive with the windows fogged up oblivious to all traffic behind, beside or in front of them. Your typical small Toyota "driver".

While I'm no fan of base spec Toyota's, it's all too easy to sneer from behind a keyboard.
That car is someone's brand new pride and joy and that someone probably doesn't give a hoot about alloys or aircon. More power to them!

Don't think anyone is sneering here. If they think that and it makes them happy more power to them. I just die inside when I hear of someone paying all that dosh for a new car with no a/c and nasty plastic wheel trims. But that's just me, each to their own :p

I was speaking to a friend who works in the Burnston factory making them. He says they get a huge laugh about the "Paddy spec" cars they have to make. He wouldn't believe me about the Auris having no aircon or alloys in Terra spec, so much so he looked up the specs for Irish cars while I was on to him. Again, he got a good laugh out of it.

I really believe it's a cynical move from Toyota Irel. to squeeze the last few bob out of Irish motorists. Even VW can stretch to throwing in air con on their notoriously basic baseline Golfs.
They know and can get away with it becuse of their good standing with Irish motorists. Could be forgiven if they were Dacia cheap but they sure as hell ain't. I find that annoying and your friends story doesn't surprise me one bit.

Wasn't it S90 in 1998? I know it was technically the same car, but it was seen around Naas few years ago, and pretty sure it said s90 on the back;)Massive car. Heard it was crashed by some idiot:mad:

It was. S90 was what the 960 saloon was badged as for 1997/1998.

96-D-1 (960 2.5 with hubcaps and cloth interior) and 00-D-1 (S80 2.9 litre) are two cars I still see occasionally around South Dublin.

He is from the moving community, so I suppose he works hard.

And before anybody asks, of course I'm jealous :)

A little bit more than a Golf but not far off.
I'd say the base model civic is a little better specced though.

Yes but the person whose buying a Corolla without aircon has probably never had a car with aircon before.

Or probably thinks "sure why would you want Air con in Ireland for" :D

New Corolla isn't an overly appealing car though - the 99 outside in the yard is more appealing imo :)

Youd think theyd move the game on a bit

Toyota have lost momentum. Some of their recent models have been a relative step backwards really. That 07 Corrolla is a shocking looking yoke, with it's tacky cheap red reflectors on the rear bumpers. Hyundai have more style and desirabilty now. Not to mention better warranties.
The new model Corolla looks alright to me but hardly a game-changer either. No a/c these days is a bit of a p1ss take

If by 07 Corolla you mean the new model that came out that year with the new Auris - then I couldn't agree more.

When they were new - you were paying 20 grand here for a car that's really an 8 grand machine - built to be competitively priced on the US market.

Same situation as with the Nissan Tiida - a car built for lower cost markets.

Can never take them seriously - and every time I see them parked up somewhere - i cannot get the question out of my head - why did someone pay 20 grand for this.

Only reason is that they are buying a badge - the Toyota badge - and probably didn't even test drive another make of car before buying it.

Well that's the only reason that makes sense.

Bet none of the Sligo dealers customers tried an i10/i20/i30/i40 or a Fiesta/Focus/Mondeo before buying their Toyotas

You really have to wonder about someone like that. Even if you could justify the cost of changing after 6 months, would you really be arsed going through the rigmarole again? That's just pure ridiculousness from a bottomless pit of money for the sake of some ludicrous social statement.

Sold by Al Hayes by any chance? All the new vehicles they're driving around my area have his name on the number plate surround.

Are they doing the plates only as L from January? Thought I read in the local paper that the city and county councils aren't merging till after the elections in the summer. I'd have expected to have 141 LK and 141 L, but only 142 L.

in this thread so far weve had an M5, S500 and Jaguar XJ mentioned, is it safe to say that maybe people will actually buy nice cars this year and not just 4 pot <2.0 diesel shítboxes.

There is only one registration letter now for Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford. This has nothing to do with councils merging. Revenue from motor tax hasn't gone directly to the CC of registration for a number of years now.
