is bubbler needed for winemaking?

    hi just wondering is a bubbler needed

    I think I read here before that a towel works fine over the ferment

    personally i would use an airlock.. you run the risk of a wild yeast taking over and rendering your wine undrinkable.

    You don't need a bubbler. The invention of wine pre-dates the invention of the bubbler by some time.

    Just cover the top so things don't fall in, but don't seal it.

    that is what i had read here before...but why do most places have the use of a bubbler as 'gospel' then??

    I think most brewers like the comfort of seeing that something is happening. As you get more experienced you wont care about the bubbler/airlock but I think its great to get visual and audible confirmation that there is activity.

    I'm not going to pretend that I'm not an airlock stalker/sniffer. :pac:

    whats the best abv to shoot for when making the Wurzels

    As a rule, I try to keep my home brewed wine under 12 ABV.

    I was reminded why on New Years Day after our NYE party.

    Home brewed wine is so cheap to make, you can make it in large volumes, and usually needs to be decanted. Recipe for hangovers unless you keep the strength in check.
