    really good lineup there..
woulda preferred something a-bit heavier, but MCD seem to have turned form proper rock bands in recent years..

Ellie Goulding here twice in three months though :/

Any guesses for this summer's Iveagh Gardens gigs?

The National will be playing, which, considering they played the O2 in November, comes as a surprise.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,539 ✭✭✭ghostdancer

Little Green Cars are playing there on the 12th July. can't remember if any others were announced.

Yeah quite surpised at the smaller venue as well but The National seem to have a genuine soft spot for Ireland and the tour of Cork, Galway and Dublin will see them play to nearly 20 thousand in 6 days with minimal transport so im sure its not a bad earner either.

Plus they got kinda shafted by MCD before so I couldnt see them taking a risk with them again and booking a big outdoor gig this summer.

Hard to tell whether they will announce a date here.

Croke Park didn't sell well but it was midweek and tickets went on sale the day they played a sold out gig at the O2.

Marlay Park with a 35,000 capacity and a decent support billing might sell well.

no word yet. it was the start of March last year.
they haven't even announced dates, and MCD have all the gigs in the IMMA this summer so far, so wouldn't be totally surprised if it's not on. there's a few acts playing the last week of May that i would have thought would play FF instead: Cloud Nothings, The War on Drugs, Schoolboy Q.

Doubt it especially after last years croke park gig not selling great . When they do come back i can either see a Aviva show or Marlay/Pheonix Park gig

Yeah I can see them play Aviva or possibly Marlay Park, I just thought Slane might be a possibility as they've have already played 02 and Croke

Croke park sales were abysmal though, Aviva could even be a stretch really..

Getting a bit depressing seeing all these UK festivals announcing really amazing lineups and still nothing over this side of the pond announced bar Longitude, and even with that there was no massive standout artists on the bill.

I think MCD/Aiken have been embracing the one day outdoor gig market. It's clearly a profitable one and alot less hassle.

Given the amount of one day gigs already in place and the way they are currently laid out, it looks like alot more could be announced.

Any idea if we will get a dance gig in Marlay Park or somewhere like that?

Thought MCD etc would have gone for a Aviici

Maybe MCD put a deal in place during last year's T-Vital in Belfast for Dublin gigs in 2014. Kings of Leon, Snow Patrol and Aviici headlined.

With KoL already announced and a new Snow Patrol album due out this year, it's within the realms of possibility that these acts could appear in Dublin this summer. Both would sell well IMO with strong support acts.

Also seems that MCD have decided to adopt a policy (more often at least) of releasing some support act details on the day of the headliner release.

Did all 3 sell well in Belfast?

I could see all of them doing well outdoors here.

Tiesto selling out 02 and Hardwell selling 02 and Belfast well on short notice so I presume Avicci/Guetta type act would sell well.
