Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Primary Schools in Cork

    Hello everyone :)

I'm moving to Blackrock, Cork on February from Portugal and I have a 5 years old daughter (she will be 6 in April).
I'm trying to find good primary schools and I need your help. I would prefer a mixed one (of course I won't hesitate if it is a good girls one). Since she has been in mixed kindergarden for the past few years and is very sociable I think she'd cope fine with both types.

The main things I care about are that the school has a good reputation, is a safe environment and that the teachers care for their students.

Since i don't own a car i will be using the public transport.

    Thanks :)

Crab Lane is a very good school. Can be difficult to get in there though. Its mixed and I have never heard any bad reports about the place. In my opinion you couldn't go wrong with it.

Thanks, byronbay2. I'll take a look into that one. ;)

Meanwhile, while i was making my research about schools i found a few "near" the place where i will be living but i have no clue if they good or not:

    Scoil Ursula
    Beaumont Girl's National School
    Educate Together
    North Presentation

    Any feedback?

WSE (whole school evaluation ) for Scoil Bhríde EGLANTINE HOUSE, BALLINLOUGH, CORK
    http://www.education.ie/en/Publications/Inspection-Reports-Publications/Subject-Inspection-Reports-List/report1_18563U.htm

No WSE available for the Educate Together and from the Dept of ED site, it seems to be in need of a building:
DOUGLAS HALL AFC, MONEYGOURNEY, COUNTY CORK

No WSE for Beaumont girls either, but I know it has a good reputation.

Scoil Ursala is a DEIS school- a "disadvantaged" school so class size would be smaller there, but some people have (wrong) notions against DEIS schools.

http://www.schooldays.ie/primary-schools-in-ireland/primary-Cork-City will give you lists of schools and the numbers of boys/girls in the school and may link to school websites too.

    Thanks, byhook.

So far I've sent emails to Scoil Ursula, ET, Beaumont about their vacancies...
And thanks to you i will be sending 2 more ;)

Regarding DEIS schools i can't figure what they have that is so "wrong". If it is due to their class sizes being small i think its kind of a bonus actually. The teacher will have a better grasp of its students evolution and needs and will be able to focus better on them, helping them in what they need for a better performance at school.

Schools will be back Monday or Tuesday ,so you will probably get replies early in the week. Some people think "DEIS" schools are rougher and have large numbers of children from home where education is not a priority. I have never seen this myself but some people may try to put you off with such comments.

If given me the opportunity when i am there, byhook, i'll take a peek with my own eyes. After all, a rumor is just a rumor until proven the contrary!
Thanks for letting me know! ;)

Mad as it seems . you may have to consider which secondary schools the primary feeds into!!
