I'd practice planning a time. Look at the profile, factor it into your pace and stick to your pace on race day. Especially for the first half and keep plenty in the tank for the last climb and use the last 2 miles to use up what's left in the tank.

Just practicing your timing will help for Limerick.

It won't really be congested so enjoy the views.

You make too much sense! That's what I will do, I seem to lose the run of myself early and then spend the second half fighting more than I should have to. Then I'm fcuked. You are all about appreciating the view aren't ya?! Heh

    Cheers Alf! :)

Well, if you're going to put yourself through physical pain, you might as well have something visual to help you thrpugh.

Something other than the side of buildings lining streets.

Yeah you are bang on! There was some difference between Dublin and Clonakilty. I actually enjoyed Clonakilty! The views were deadly. Plus there were a few eh, ladies dressed as elves and Santas with thigh high socks....that might have helped.

Not sure a bearded, elderly gentleman with thigh-high stocks would have spurred me on but to each his own ;)

Jaaaaaaysis it's been a while, need to resurrect this thread to get me going again.

I've to kick last year straight in the fcuking face.

This year started with a cement truck full of plans and enthusiasm. Had a looong list of things I wanted to do. Due to work and other things, it's now a wheelbarrow full of things I hope I get to do.

First race of the year was meant to be Donadea, didn't happen for me unfortunately. I'm full of excuses on that one but ultimately I didn't get to do it.

Kept tipping away when I could, the odd cycle to and from work, run at lunch and occasional gym session. Got my shoulders blasted with cortisone but I'm only about 70% ok.

Did the St.Patricks Day Adventure Race in Killarney 2 weeks ago and totally bombed, was in the bottom 10. Really bad day for me. Lessons well and truly learned though. Pints the night before and a big fry in the morning is not the way to race prep. I've never listened to that advice but it's concreted in now.

I'm firmly in a routine now. All bases covered, running, kayaking, cycling, gym, nutrition etc. just have to adjust the "pfft be grand" mentality!

'Cos it's not fcuking grand, these things are hard!

Adjusting my race calendar tonight to a realistic one.

Struggled with the 8km today. It was a bit windy at the start, then some hailstones. I seem to have picked up a few niggles from astro yesterday. Knee and ankle are sore so it effected the run. Did it in 46:05 anyway.

    Gym straight after work.
    cable bicep curls:
40 reps with 1 plate (whatever weight that is...must find out!)
    30 reps with 2 plates
    20 reps with 3 plates
    10 reps with 4 plates
    10 reps with 5 plates

    Overhead tricep extensions:
    Same as above

    Cable tricep pull downs
    40 reps with 3 plates
    30 reps with 4 plates
    20 reps with 5 plates
    10 reps with 6 plates
    10 reps with 7 plates

    Barbell bicep curls:
    40 x 12.5kg
    30 x 15kg
    20 x 20kg
    10 x 22.5kg
    10 x 22.5kg

Had to skip skulls as I ran out of time.

    Aaaand that's Thursday done.

    No training yesterday.

Today was 2 hrs of kayaking at Bullock Harbour. Jaysis I hate the sea, it was windy as fcuk. I better learn how to swim.

Il hop on the bike tonight.

Went out for 10km this morning, barely lasted 6km.

Fcuking knee is in bits for some reason. This is inconvenient. I don't have time to be injured :(

You know me better than that! :)

Frustrated from this morning, went out there at lunch and did 11.5km in 62:19.

Happy enough. I've a 10km thing tomorrow....might just try and enjoy it and finish in 70mins.

Gave myself a break for a few days and attempted a trot today.

Knee was too weak so I knocked it on the head. Contemplating ditching Connemarathon next week. :(
