I'm on Xanax at the mo Murph, hence my slow pace. The doc said I was ok to run this morning, felt good to be allowed out tbh. I'm not really built for speed, happy enough plodding along for now. I tried interval training with a few I run with, but it just killed me. Had to walk it off for a few minutes, then continue running on my own. These guys win prizes at 5km races, I'm happy enough to get a fizzy drink in the goodie bag. Thanks for the advice though, I might give it another go in a month when I'm feeling better/fitter.

2 races on the horizon, Camp trail run and Brandon hm. I'll be down that neck of the woods for both. Might do a 10km in May too.

    What's the Clearlier plan?

    It's in this thread: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057322983&page=1

In retrospect it's aimed at marathon grads so not all of it will suit you but you might find some ideas there for some shorter speed sessions.

9.5km in 54 mins. Nice pace. Nothing left in the tank.

Will try get to a parkrun this weekend and see what time I can get in.

5km Naas park run done. Watch didn't start on time, so I did it in around 24 mins. The finish was more forgiving, at the bottom of the hill. I misjudged it though and slowed down my pace too soon. Started a bit fast, and got slower. Such is life.

Got my time, 25:07. Exactly a minute slower than my first one. Ooops.

12km in 1:08. Ran with my neighbour, the one who is mad for speed. Held her back a bit anyway. Lovely night, great run. Fooked.

Had a cold brewing on Friday/Saturday, that's cleared up now.

7km. No time. Hit a blip there on Saturday, caught cellulitis on my face. 11 hours in tallaght hospital, 2 drips later, and I was home. Course of 1000mg of penicillin, 4 times a day. On top of my Bell's palsy 2 months ago, I'm on anxiety tablets the past 2 weeks too. Talk about falling apart!

I use wanted to get out for air tonight. Might do the same on Thursday. Wanted to do Terenure 5 mile, but we'll see how I feel.

Beertons, if I were to say one thing to you it would be, 'stop timing every run'.

    Good luck, keep at it.

    But stop timing every run!!

15km in ages. Illnesses gone. So hot out. Like a noob, I forgot the Vaseline. Under the arms are sore. Met an ex and walked with her for a bit. Realised I was gone a bit off course and ran back.

After a bit if a hiatus, I'm heading back out tonight. Went away to Galway for a weekend on the beer, lost momentum. Have a 10 mile trail run in 2 weeks, have to start moving quickly again.

Is the trail run a race?

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 23,177 ✭✭✭✭beertons

Howaya Murph. Yep. Did it last year, finished 50th out of 100. Technically my highest finish ever. There's method to my madness though, am buying all the non perishables for the summer holiday that I'll be down for a week later. Staying in a chalet, and check in isn't till 4, and shopping with smallies after a 200 mile drive would be insane. The mother in law is down there, so free board for me that weekend.

Camp 10 mile trail run done, in 1:38:53. That's what the watch said anyway. Very windy, still warm though. 52 signed up for it, half of last years numbers. I stayed with a group of 3 till mile 7, then kicked on. Wind on my back, I knew I could get a bit of distance between us. Very happy with today's run, I think I finally got a better result than my last attempt. Will check it out when I get on the iPad, I'd be looking all night on the phone.

Edit: 3 minutes slower. Damn it.

Brandon Bay half marathon done in 1:59:56. Forgot my watch, so had to return to get it, was a bit late getting there. Got the Vaseline on in the car, quick stop for a pee then. The race had started when I was in the jacks. Anyway, ran down to the start, used that as my warm up, I was 2 minutes behind everyone at this stage. Tough run, on the sand and into the wind. The plan was to take it handy going out, no more than 6:30/km going out, and let the wind take me back. Picked off a good few on the way out. Met the first 2 returning at 9km, they were on 13. Saw 2 guys yapping, and decided that they were the 2 I wanted to catch. Got them at 18km and blew on a bit more. 1:05 running out, 54:56 mins on the return leg. Nice cup of soup for all finishers at the end, provide by Spillanes. They do a lovely seafood chowder, but I'll have to go back for that, just got veg soup today.

9km@6.30 pace. Holidays over. Not ran since Brandon. Kept it slow. So much so I was way behind the group. Took a shorter route than them, I didn't drink any water today, really felt it. Might aim for the Dingle half next, if the mother in law lets me stay over.

Taking a bit of a break. Herself is working late and a few weekends, can't get a babysitter at 730 on a Saturday morning. Still here, looking out the window at all the runners go by.

Yes. After 3 tough weekends, I had a free weekend, so slept in late and did a bit of gardening. Back out tomorrow. Think Dingle is a bit soon after a month off. Good to recharge anyway and do nothing. I haven't even had a peek at all the logs I'm subscribed to.

Gone off my running gang for a bit. They're all in marathon mode, and it only reminds me of my failed attempt. So I joined a gym. Something different, it's across the road. Use a few machines, work some more muscles, and I get to use pool, sauna, steam room. Plus on an off day, I can take the kids for a splash.

Went in yesterday for an assessment, did a warm up on the bike, and finished with a slow 5km on the threadmill.

8km in 50 mins. Another threadmill run, watching the Aus v Wales game. The girl turned off the telly at half time, so I'm home now to watch the end of it. Have a beer pass for tomorrow, so said I'd get a run in this evening instead.

Forgot to log a few. Mainly 5km warm ups. Did a speed session, where I'd increase it up to level 13, 13.5, from level 8. I'd only Sprint for 300m, but it was good fun. I was wrecked. Good to open the lungs a bit. And for all the huffing and puffing you do on a cross trainer, I'm amazed at how slow the distance racks up.

3 warms ups. Not including the speed one, as that was more for fun and I didn't last more than 10 mins at it.

8km during the first half of the rugby. What am I gonna watch now. Started off slow, 7.5km/hr, finished off the last 500m @15.5km/hr. I probably could have gone faster, but it was still a fair click. One of the gym employees came over to see if I was ok, I just said I wanted the second half to begin already.

Still tipping away at the gym, no real effort put into running the past 3 weeks. Give ya's a bit of a laugh though. Went into the pool area after some weights, thought there was more people around than normal. Carried on and dived into the pool. I still had my glasses on. Usually I never see who's in the place, coz im blind. Woops.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 23,177 ✭✭✭✭beertons

Bonjourno. I'm back. After tipping away with the gym, weights and what not, I decided to venture out onto the footpaths again. Had no interest in keeping up running if I hadn't a goal run in mind. Camp Trail run, 10 miles, June 25th. Went slow, walked when I was wrecked, then jogged again. Gone from the house 70 mins. No idea of distance as I have no idea where I hid the watch. How bad.

I'll get back to snooping on everyone's logs later. As not to start spamming them all, well done on all your recent races.

11km tonight. A lot slower as the body was shocked at being back out again. Did 2 loops of hilly routes.

Right. Goal run in mind, the trail run was cancelled and replaced with a 40 miler. Yeah right. Bought new runners, brooks ghost something. Red ones. Still in the gym, been doing a lot of canoeing lately. Will add recovery runs the day after my long runs now, and not run for the sake of adding on distance. So Tuesday's and Thursday's, 10km with strides. Long run sat and recovery of no more than 5km on Sunday.

Diet is good, I'm off sugar. Still smoking though, will look at it after a stag next weekend.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 23,177 ✭✭✭✭beertons

Back out. Ran for an hour, slowly. 3 days off the smokes, using patches. Feel good, could have probably ran a bit more but don't want to vex things.
