Walsh has been a massive let down for me in recent years. Doesn't seem to have kicked on.

Needs to pick a sport and concentrate 100% on it.

The notion that anyone can be a top-level player in both codes is just crazy.

You could get away with it somewhat when GAA was more amateur and back in the stone-age as regards fitness and conditioning but nowadays when proper fitness is just a basic prerequisite, it's lunacy to even try.

It's not a question of not kicking on - he looks to have regressed as a footballer.

Considering he was motm in 2010 aif and looked good in '12. Like alot of Cork footballers there seems to be a bit of mental frailty and lack of confidence there- must be something to do with being 2nd class citizens compared to the hurlers, cos lack of self confidence is not something u normally associate w Cork people!!

Wrt to the duel thing it cant help tho id say it would be more detrimental to his hurling than football, even if he is playing better with hurlers.

The timing of his jumping seemed off last night, his kicking is very inconsistent and his decision making looked a bit suspect last night, so I'm not sure if it is his hurling which is being most affected.

I think the legend of Teddy Mac and his winning of medals for Sam and Liam in the same year is what has kept the notion of dual alive in Cork this long (its amazing how often and how quickly he has come up in the conversations I've had with Cork folk about dualism) The idea of repeating his feat might be very attractive to a player's ego but I really think when it comes to the dual player - "no one can serve two masters"

As a Kerryman I'm delighted he's trying the dual nonsense and even more pleased Cadogan and Cahillane are wasting their time at the same nonsense.

    Four provincial winners left.

Since 2011 only one provincial champ has lost a QF.

Goes to show that the real contenders take the provincial championship seriously.

More likely that the qualifiers leave everyone else knackered.

    Nope.
    Winning the province means
    A. You avoid the other big guns.
    B. You know your own scheduled thus can prepare better.

A fees years ago their was a tendency to use the qualifier to hone your game.
But the game has come on a lot in the past few years so preparation is key, and a month long jaunt around the country for qualifiers is now a recipe for getting ambushed

Actually that observation makes my point.
Contenders don't want to get knackered in the qualifiers

Probably is just as much to do with the lack of competition in the provinces as teams actually targeting provincial titles. The last few years we only really had 1 team each in Connaught and Leinster and the usual 2 in Munster. I suppose Monaghan, Tyrone and Armagh came through the back door to Q/F's but they really wouldn't have been serious contenders, Q-F/S-F's their level.

Where's the best place to get tickets where I can select the seats? Have checked ticketmaster and tickets.ie but they're not great seats. I'm looking for 2 tickets for either Hogan or Cusack. Thanks.

If you are in Dublin, the ticket office on Dorset St lets you select your seats. But there are no guarantees that you will be able to get better ones than are available online. It can be hard to get really great seats online, especially for the really big games that there is a lot of demand for. Most of the really good Lr Hogan and Lr Cusack seats are sent to the competing counties to be distributed amongst the clubs, or are kept for season ticket holders.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,877 ✭✭✭purplecow1977

Yes I think you are right. And obviously everyone wants 'good' seats so unsure what i'm hoping for really! Suppose I should be just glad I'm going at all! (remember last year I would have taken anything for the all Ireland!!! )

I think Limerick is a good choice of venue for the Mayo v Kerry replay.

Often we hear about games only being played in a half empty CP.

Limerick is handy for both sets of fans and will be more or less full which will give a great atmosphere.
Remember replay crowds are always less than the first game

Mayo have an objection in on the venue by the way, wanting it a week later in CP, but I think it will be thrown out.

Have to admit its a venue I don't know very well - what's the capacity?
How far is for Mayo fans?

According to Wikipedia 49k+, which sounds about right

It has covered stand one side, uncovered seats the other and two good terraces.
Got a makeover on the early 2000s.
The uncovered seats were done then as were the terraces I believe

Its about two hours from Castlebar. Last stretch is motorway.

Its a great venue for a game that would bring the type of crowds that would be going to this game

Think Gaelic Grounds holds 49k? Unless its capacity was reduced recently???

Is Limerick really a fair choice considering Mayo have hardly played in it?

Edited to add, no Hawkeye in Limerick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Outside of Croke Pk, is there another venue that would suit though? I dont think so.

I think the GAA have given valid reasons for why it cannot be in Croke Park.

If that American football match was in the Aviva next week, then you would undoubtedly have people asking the GAA couldnt get it in Croke Park!

Probably no other suitable venue, no. But at this stage of the championship, I think it's unfair to Mayo.

As stated on the Sunday Game, the American football thing shouldn't have been scheduled in the midst of the busiest time in the Football and Hurling championships, in case of replays, which feature yearly.

No, it shouldnt....but we are in this situation now and it cannot change so I see little point in complaining about it.

Well I was alluding to Mayo's statement that they are disappointed that the GAA did not fix it for a "more neutral venue". That suggests the GAA are out to get them. But I do not see that. Croke Park is not available. It should be available but its not. I could understand a statement like that if there was another alternative venue outthere but there isnt!

This is the only time of year the College game can be played. What the GAA should have done is at the beginning of the year when they were planning out the fixtures given themselves a spare week in case something like this happened. Worst case scenario, the finalists have an extra week to prepare.

Agree that was the most logical thing to do. What difference does a week make between the normal 3rd and 4th Sunday of September. Pure shambles from the GAA

Hawkeye issue is a big one actually. For example, Andy moran's point today probably wouldn't have been given only for it.

Not saying it's only Mayo affected by having it in Limerick. If the 2 teams agreed, would they move it out to the 6th? Either team would only have 2 weeks to prepare for a final; I wonder would they be staunchly against that?

Also, how set in stone is the 21st for the final? Could it be pushed out a week? Given that none of the teams in it have been decided yet, fan disruption should be at a minimum? Any reason I'm missing?

It'll be great in limerick. Hopefully each county get their respective 'end' behind each goal to add to it.

Will it be shown on TV. Presume it will. Can't make to Limerick.

I'm a Mayo fan living in Dublin and while I'd prefer it to be in Croke park (mainly for the bigger pitch that would suit our style) I'm happy enough with a trip down to Limerick. Sure aren't we used to travelling west to see them play anyway?

You're incorrect on that, many fans resident in Mayo are unhappy re the venue but at this stage accepting of the fact that it's set in stone and an unneccesary distraction from the task at hand.

Yup. Just watching Donegal v Dublin again now.

    So that's that for 2014.
I did not see Kerry winning it, thought they would be SF at best.
Had no notion that Donegal would get to the final, but to be honest they were brutal when they got to it.

Once again we see how difficult winning back to back is.

I can see Kerry building on this, but maybe not in 2015 as they may have a few more retirements and remember back to backs are hard to win.

Dublin will be hurting from the Donegal loss so they will be strong, but may need to develop their game a bit.

Not sure what Mayo will be like, new mamager(s) and all, but probably good enough to win Connaught again.
If Galway win Connaught then they will not get to the final

F@#k knows what Cork are like.

I don't see a contender coming from Ulster.

Odds for '15 are as follows from PP.
    Dublin 5/4
    Kerry 4/1
    Mayo 6/1
    Cork 15/2
    Donegal 11/1.

Leinster play Connaught and Munster play Ulster in the SF.

Big possibility of Dublin v Kerry final there
