    Has anyone taken severance pay, how is it taxed and what job seekers am I entitled to??

    It depends on what it is exactly. If it's PFO money it's an ex gratia payment, the first one (upto 10 or 20K I can't remember or indeed know if this has changed) is tax free and you can still claim you were fired, meaning you can start claiming JSA immediately. You'd normally negotiate with the HR department that if an employer called you'd get a good reference and if the social called you're the devil incarnate.

    (I'm exaggerating the last part slightly.)

    If this is the end of an employee/employer dispute a solicitor should be involved. If the company has any sense they'll let you pick one and pay the costs themselves.

    If this is completely irrelevant, I blame your lack of detail! :P
