Varying efibre speeds in Dundalk at weekend?

I'm on the the Up To 50 meg efibre package with an unlimited download allowance. Normally I get speeds of 47 down and 15 up. However on Saturday & Sunday evening my download speeds dropped to around 20 to 25. Just wonder is there a problem with my line or is there an issue at the local exchange (Dundalk)?

Rang Technical Support, and the agent said to ring back when the slowdown was occurring.

He said you could ring up to 10pm, but I rang them at 1890260260 last night at around 8.30pm and got a message saying the call centre was only open until 8pm. Can you confirm what time tech support is available till in the evening?

Check your modem stats too. It could be a physical fault on your line like water or wind related.

Is your phone crackling or anything?

No crackling that I'm aware of. Stats attached. Seem ok  to me.

Was talking to technical support last night around 9.30pm as my speeds (particularly download) had slowed down again when checking the speed on the speedtest.net site.

The person I was talking too couldn't find a fault on the line. However after midnight speeds returned back up to normal when using speedtest.net. Same thing is happening again tonight. Download speeds have more than halved when testing on speedtest.net.

I wonder is this indicative of a wider network problem than my line in particular?

    Hi Mr Cumulonimbus

I’m afraid I wouldn’t be aware of this issue from my channel here. The best channel to advise you on this would be our technical support team.

Same again tonight. Slowdown in speeds from around 9pm to midnight. I downloaded a video mp4 file (1.5 GB in size) provided by another poster at 10.45pm during the slowdown. The download speed was 1.1 MB/sec rising to 2 towards the end.

I downloaded the same file again after midnight when speeds were back to normal. The download rate this time was 4.4 MB/sec for the whole download.  This to me appears to indicate some sort of congestion/slowdown on the network earlier in the evening.  The case ID for this query is 1268430. If possible could somebody pass on this info to tech support for further investigation. Thanks.

just got efibre installed today in balbriggan. after installation checked speed, was  download 45mb/s, upload 20 mb/s. now checked 8.40pm: download 22 mb/s, upload 17mb/s.  seems same storry. was downloading video after installation and it goes at 5.5 mb/s speed, now only at 2.2 mb/s. i had nearly the same speed before broadband upgrade (except upload)...

Sounds familiar Lexas! Rang tech support again around 9.35 this evening and the agent said he had a number of calls regarding this. Said it would be investigated further. Having the same slowdown in speeds again tonight.

I've been on to tech support 3 times regarding this. Today it started happening during the day.

Seems that there us trouble in eircom niy able to handle the load. Something happened in the INEX and eurom only have one 10gig line. There supposed to have 2 but only one is up. This is what my friend told me.

If their network is down and they know it then it would be alit easier if they told us the customer that there are problem and they are working on it rather than the nonsense usual shrug shoulder response.

I have the same problem in Douglas, Cork. Incredibly annoying.

    this needs fixing asap
Here is a snap of my variable download speeds.
Before you ask. All these tests are under same conditions. 1 connection to the router(wifi), same location(beside router).
Same results for ethernet single connection(jsut didn't log them as app on phone was perfect for results).

    Hi Lexas,

Sorry to hear of the speed issues you are having, i can appreciate experiencing such speeds with efibre broadband can be very dissapointing. You may have noticed that we had advised other posters on this thread to contact broadband technical support with the speed issues they have, I will need to request you do do the same the next time you experience the slow speeds again.

Broadband support can be contacted on 1890260260 or free phone 1901 (after entering your landline number please chose option 3 then 2 when prompted).

    Thanks

    Al

Alan, I have rang tech support twice at this stage. The second time, the agent said other people had contacted Eircom reporting the same issue. I was told my actual line is ok and and further investigation may be warranted.  However slowdowns in the evening are still occuring for me. It appears to be a wider issue than individual users having differing problems and may need to be acknowledged by Eircom as such.

    Hi Mr Cumulonimbus

I can understand the disappointment this can create however I will not be able to assist with such issues from here and the best advice I can offer is to raise this with the technical support department. I'm in agreement with you that it seems to be a larger issue and I have already provided this feedback however I am unable to offer further updates or clarification on this issue.

    Thanks

    Al

Thanks Alan. There's a case ID on this (1268430) already. I'll wait until Friday or so before I'll ring them again if the issue isn't resolved by then.

i managed that when im connected with wire from router, i have normal speed about 47 mb/s, but on wireless only half speed, restarting router doesnt help. Seems new router faulty. now waiting for some home plugs, but not sure what is that and how it helps to up speed for faulty router.

Wondering what's the latest re this issue? Despite news that the cable issue has been resolved:

    http://community.eircom.net/t5/Service-Updates-and/Resolved-Recent-undersea-cable-issues/m-p/56284

I'm still experiencing a slowdown in speeds after around 8.30pm. Nothing seems to have changed unfortunately.

Same slowdown in download speeds again tonight. Rang technical support again just before 10pm. Agent said line was fine, though he thought my upload speed could be better (10.5 Mb/s) when a speedtest was done using the Eircom test site.

He thought it was more of general issue of congestion on the network at certain times in the evening and that Eircom would continue to monitor the situation.  He did mention the cable issue as well as the recent bad weather. It appears moving to efibre has not solved an issue like congestion though. Some speed test results:
