Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Unlikely to be fit enough to marshal, so van now start thinking about what poster to stick up.

Initial thought was "Beasty iz ere", but then I thought how about something like "Leave my feckin KOMs alone!":D

Hope they still have Philip Deignan...he has had stomach problems recently along with being out alot with his collarbones....but hope he get a chance as could win a stage esp if off the hook re domestique duties

Without Henao , Kennaugh is next in line but he may be also concentrating on the Tour ....Wiggins could maybe have won this Giro!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....but he has now shifted to a cobbles specialist

What about Nieve? he did well in the basque country today. Is a good climber.
In other news Cavendish still to decide btw Giro and California

So who is the Movistar rider crossing the line, on the Giro bill board adverts around town.

    Rui Costa?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,419 ✭✭✭NeedMoreGears

They're out repairing the road between Portmarnock and Baldoyle. The long (as in 2km) line of cones down the middle of the road means I've been dragging a line of cars behind me on my commute ; to be fair all well behaved.

The NI flyer has stage 3 ending in Forkhill I think. Now DCC claim the race only goes from Dundalk-Drogheda and Malahide-Dublin... how's it getting from Drogheda to Malahide?

The NI flyer barely makes reference to the stage 3 into Dublin.

I thought these tourist boards were suppose to be working together.

Why should the NI tourist board promote Dublin they are only interested in getting people to the North. .

A month to go and still no obvious indication that anything is happening . .
I really cannot get my head around this

A large percentage of people in the North think that the 6 counties are the centre of the universe. As far as they're concerned the giro will be over once it crosses the border

Saw a banner this morning promoting the Giro coming to Dublin. It's on the glass building beside City Hall on Dame Street. Haven't seen much else though.

I saw some pink saddle covers mentioning the dates on bikes parked on Dawson St. a few weeks ago. They appeared to have been put there as part of a campaign.

The Independent had an article yesterday...

Every billboard on the route and also around Dublin city should be dedicated to advertising the Giro.

Is the GC realistically a two horse race between Quintana & Rodriguez? A surprise if anyone challenges them? Though with the power in the ranks of OPQS of late, I wonder if Uran will be beyond what one might have expected?

    ...
Uran is currently sick I believe and has gone back to Columbia (????) !!

One would suggest Chris Horner but he has/had tinnitus

There are the Italians Cunego, Pozzovivo, Scarponi & Basso

Don't rule out Cadel Evans. BMC are twice the team they were since Alan Peiper came on as Performance Director, and Cadel individually showed a lot of strength in the TDU.

I'd love to see Sivtsov lead Sky in the Giro, he was amazing last year.

Yes of course Cadel ....Nieve may be Sky leader but Deignan may be let off the leash hopefully

Not sure if Belkin are keeping all their top riders for the Tour and Tour of California

I assume Warren Baguil & FDJ & Eurocar are also in reserve for the Tour

But there are 2 very good Irish riders if in top form ..... :):)

Just noticed a lot of spray marks on defects on the R127 (Lusk to Blake's Cross) today. Hopefully a resurfacing is on the way?

I suppose what I find puzzling is when driving around Dublin there is plenty of adverts displaying the fact that the Giro is coming to NI.

But wait it is also coming in Dublin! I dont think much has been done to promote that.

I know plenty of people with a passing interest in cycling who are aware of the Giro in NI, but had no idea that they would be able to see it coming down the quays and finishing in Merrion Square.

Completely off topic, but I always get laugh when I think of this

    donnybrook
    ˈdɒnɪbrʊk/Submit
    nounN. AMER.AUSTRAL./NZ
    noun: donnybrook; plural noun: donnybrooks
    1.
a scene of uproar and disorder; a heated argument.
    "raucous ideological donnybrooks"

You are probably right although Cunego ( and Evans) are going very well in Pais Vasco at present

Its is hard ot see past Quintana as he and Movistar are very strong

7th I think last year, does Rafa Majka have a plausible chance of a podium?

Its hard to know.....didn't go as well as expected in Paris Nice or Criterium International

Where you come depends on the competition
Horner is out as in hospital after a crash yesterday ...was in intensive care
Porte is out to concentrate on the Tour
Uran has gone back to Columbia and was said to be sick last week

The Irish boys are training hard but haven't raced alot this year so not sure if that is a good or a bad thing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,630 ✭✭✭pelevin

Yeah, that's partly why I asked the question. Seems the competition is dwindling & I don't expect much of the old Italians, so after the big two of Quintana & Rodriguez, make that the little two, there doesn't seem a whole lot in their wake.

Rafa is a very good climber so I suppose a podium is more than possible ....he was aiming for one when interviewed at the beginning of the year

Possible third place on podium in order of probability IMO

Uran, Evans, Majka, Pozzivivo. Basso, Trofimov, Niemiec

May not have the top riders but it could be a very interesting race nonetheless

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,606 ✭✭✭MPFG

Of course as I forgot to mention there are 2 very good Irish riders who have every possibility of fighting out for the podium...then it would be interesting !!!

But I dare not hope yet

I've literally no idea what sort of form Dan Martin has right now. He's been very quite and raced very little. I know it's part of a bigger plan for his Giro build up but I'd love to know how it's coming along.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,630 ✭✭✭pelevin

Yeah it'd be great to see the our lads flying though I don't think there's logically a lot to go on in terms of how they'll be. Dan in terms of the overall there seems no track record to justify a belief in a podium, which though doesn't mean this won't be where he turns that around - & he's been very quiet thus far this year; while Nicolas I also don't think we really have a clue where his form is at or is likely to be at.
