Will be heading to Lough Eske Hotel next month - looking for any information on things in the vicinity that would be worth looking into or doing.

On their site they have plenty of recommendations but at the same time i am not there for a long time so don't want to be away for hours at a time going to and from Glenveagh etc.

    Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Will you have your own transport, or limited to the Donegal town area?

If you have transport you can go see Slieve League clifts the highest in Europe , you will pass through Killybegs largest fishing port in Ireland. You could vist the castle in Donegal town. There are loads of stunning beaches in and around the area if you wanted to brave the cold and go surfing, or just walk along the shores. There are many walking trails, Lough Eske is in a stunning location for walking and scenery. I suppose it depends how active you wish to be.

Thanks for the tips.. yes i will have a car. But staying in a lovely hotel, i'd like to make the most of the trip given its not the norm for me so i wouldnt want to drive more than 30 mins away from hotel if that makes sense.

There is a famine pot on the road around the Lough, worth a look if you like your history!

Sticking to the lough theme, its a lovely walk in that area if the weather is good.

Also if you have someone who can drive and doesnt drink pop over to Biddy's O'Barnes and get a couple of drinks in the old public bar (as opposed to the newer lounge). Its about 10 minutes drive from the hotel. Probably more appreciated in one way if you go during daylight hours to take in the fantastic view of the adjacent mountains.
