I really can't understand the amount of people going for pablo's. The girlfriend and I brought two of our married friends (she is Mexican, he is Canadian, they live in monterey, mexico) to pablo's as they had just won a competition for the best burritos in dublin. It turned out it was a facebook event they started. We were very dissapointed. The meat was tasteless (I had the pork) and the beer (something with a blue label from New England I think) was past its best before date (they went to replace it but the replacements were also out of date) so they gave us a refund and some water instead.

Maybe we were unlucky and caught them on a bad day, but we haven't gone back.

Although from this thread I think I will have to give them a second chance and report back.

I wish they would allow you to get peppers instead of black beans :(

Definitely worth visiting Azteca if you like Mexican food. Never had a burrito there, but their other stuff is quality. Owner is bang on too.

Never went to Boojum, will definitely make a trip there. I always get the pork in Pablo Picante, always fantastic. As mentioned before, sometimes it's a bit wet at the bottom which is annoying, especially the way you eat a burrito.

You were all aware that you weren't in Mexico though, right? Even if it is in fact the best in Dublin, it's never going to be quite the same. It would be like me complaining about the 'best' Dublin sushi after living in Japan for x number of years.

Actually we were, (the weather gave it away). As for the best in Dublin, that remains to be seen, although they did like Acapulco.

    Boojum is my favourite.
Nothing beats a big sloppy burrito and a nice beer or two to break up the shopping.

You do know that Burritos are a Californian invention right? The style that we see popping up all over Dublin originated in the Mission district in San Francisco- also Canadians are idiots, I wouldn't trust them ;)

We had the same experience during our last (as in the last) visit to Boojum - awful, gristly steak. My OH can eat pretty much anything and he was starving but he just gave up. On reflection we should have complained but it was very crowded and actually it was so bad that we just wanted to leave.

Absolutely love B&B (Silver bullet with half the rice, number 3 salsa, sour cream, cheese, peppers, jalepenos), been there too many times as I work just around the corner, but I've never been to Boojum or Pablo's so will deinitely be checking them out soon.

burritos and blues any day of the week! i absolutely love burrito's and have made sure i've tried everything dublin has to offer but you just can't beat the carnitas in buritto and blues! its delicious! i've been to little ass a couple of times now and im always dissapointed. seems they throw more rice in their burritos than anything else and the rice is always wet and salty tasting. i used to go to taco taco as i worked with a mexican guy and his cousin used to be one of the chefs there.. they're decent but nothing to write home about. boojum is great and runs B&B close but i think, based on my own preference of course, that B&B take the award for me :)

Boojum tonight again and as always, didn't disappoint.

Chicken, peppers, sweet corn, jalapeños, cheese, sour cream and the hottest salsa. Boom!!

I've actually never had the steak there before (I've had the chicken, shredded beef and shredded pork which are all nice) but in all honesty, I think if the steak is consistently bad then people should complain.

Boojum seems to take their quality pretty seriously and if they don't know that people aren't enjoying the steak they can't know to change it.

"Burritos", per se, are not a Californian invention, although you're right that the traditional Mexican burrito is different to the type we're discussing here. Anyway, the Mission is full of Mexicans!

Edit: Or it used to be, before all the hipsters moved in.

I went down to Boojum to see what all fuss was about and tried their carnitas burrito with salsa verde.
Not a patch on Pablo Picante imho.

Can we add Taco Taco to the poll?

Never had a bad burrito there and there have been many.

I know this thread is old but.....

I'm just back from 8 days in the states, and I had 6 burritos. I previously lived in the states for a couple of years, which is when my burrito addiction began. Anyway, since I got back I'm suffering withdrawal symptoms. Just to be clear, the type of burrito I'm talking about is the type you get in Boloco or Chipotle in the states. I tend to get the biggest one they have, with chicken, rice, no beans, lettuce, salsa, and hot sauce (normally extra hot sauce). For me, the steam thing they put the tortilla in first is key.

So, my question is for the people on here who are familiar with the likes of boloco and chipotle, and have also frequented the various burrito places listed here - which Dublin burrito place should I be going to?!

PS: I'm actually from Galway - nowhere here does them "right", but I do get the odd one in La Salsa.

Boojum and Pablo Picante do them well. Burritos and Blues do not.

I love Boojum but only ever have the chicken there. The steak is tough and the pork is a tad odd tasting for my palate. I always feel sorry for that other burrito place beside the Chinese at the turn off to Henry Street – its always empty. Im not surprised though given the interest of the staff and the quality of the ingredients used. While BJ is a bit achingly hip for my liking, its miles nearer my comfort zone than a ramshackle chance your arm saloon.

I have never been to Pablos. Given that Im a chicken & pinto kinda gal, what would you recommend I try in Pablos?

Oh - and I tried B & Blues. Awful. Didnt like at all.

Try the shredded beef. The pork is really good usually, but I have had it where there is too much aniseed flavour or something.

if your going to say something is good or bad then the very least you do is explain why, which you did but previous poster didn't.

Tolteca on Baggot Street is a franchise of Chipotle if that helps your decision :) Chicken burrito with chipotle salsa there is one of the tastiest meals ever

Yeah the boyfriend went there for lunch today. He was confused by the staff not understanding his order til he realized they pronounce things weirdly - torTILLA and quesaDILLA. No silent l. Thought it was alright but no Boojum.

Nice I am always in the 1 in the IFSC as it's near my college NCI and I had a nice beer in their Wexford St branch with my Quesedilla.

So have people who've been to both Pablo Piccante in Clarendon market and Boojum voted in this?

Becasue I love Pablo, go there the whole time and love Cali Carnita and Beefy with Cremosa. I've been to Boojum once and thought it was OK but no way as good as Pablo. Maybe I just got it on a bad day.

I lived in California for seven years and I have yet to find a burrito place in Dublin that I'm happy with. I've had decent ones at all of them and not-very-good ones at all of them, but none are consistently good and even when they are good, they're not good enough. (I'm sure the native Irish have similar experiences with the Guinness abroad!)

Also the ways people pronounce "jalapeño" here do my head in :D

Was just reading this tread, interesting to see the different views, I defo want to try Burritos & Blues.

I picked this up having seen the mail going around work, and was very impressed! The staff had little or no English, but the service was good and more importantly by Burrito was fresh and tasty. Being honest when I saw how cheap they were I was worried, but I was wrong!

Have eaten in Burritos and Orange,Pablo's,Burritos and Blues and Boojum over the past month or so,and the best burrito for my money, was in Burritos and Blues up on Wexford Street.

I've ranked them in order here:

1.Burritos and Blues-Lovely ingredients and massive burrito.
2.Pablo's: Very nice burrito but the service was hit and miss.
3.Boojum: Decent burrito but quite small, lovely salsa though.
    4.Burritos and Orange:Not the best quality ingredients,poor service,cold tortilla.

Back from a weekend in Dublin and I have to say I thought the Burritos in Tolteca were class. The place had the feel of a chipotle or boloco, right down to the chicken cooking on the grills in the background. I went for a chicken burrito with white rice, the medium hot salsa, and lettuce. Very tasty indeed - my only slight grumble was that it was a touch too small, but that's probably because I was used to the monster ones I'd get in the states. Now I just wish there was a Tolteca in Galway.

Just had a chicken burrito in Burritos and Blues in the IFSC. Not impressed. I only live 2 min away, but it was stone cold by the times I got it home. The hot ingredients (the chicken, the roasted peppers, the rice, the beans) were clearly not hot enough from the get go to cope with the cold ones (jalapeno peppers, cheese, salsa sauce) going into the burrito as well.

The sauce was great (got the #2 one) and it gave the burrito a great spicy kick, but coldness over all was very off putting. It is hard to re heat a burrito in the microwave as the tortilla goes all soggy if you do. Most of it went in the bin. Was reasonably priced. Would have been a good deal at 6 quid if were warmer. Took many a hot burrito home when I lived in the US, so it can be done. It was at 5.45pm, so you'd think they'd have a decent turnover of people coming in to get grub to stop food getting cold. Apparantly not.

You don't need to go to the US for a hot one. I regularly walk 10 minutes back from Pablo Picante and it's still warm. Or pick them up on the way home. That's 20 minutes in a motorcycle pannier.
